and its only tuesday night.

well i have found out about my maternity leave and basically because work took almost 4 months to fill out the forms and it ended up being handed over to department of labour because they didnt fill the forms out properly, i miss out on maternity leave by 4 days (if they had filled the forms out properly and sent them to ird, ird would have come back and said you miss the 6mth cut off point by 4 days and i would have been able to change my dates). not very impressed with work at all.

blood pressure good this week, i am spending every tuesday as a day patient until baby is born, just having my bp monitored. although today while hooked up to the monitor for baby, it registered that i had 2 contractions in 20mins. (nothing to get excited about though as it seems they are only braxton hicks), but i did wake up every 2 hours last night with period pain like back ache.

oh well not long to go now.

Uh oh ! Since it's work's stuff up, is there anything you can do? I'd be furious ! Mind you, getting really angry probably isn't any good for your poor blood pressure.

And that reminds me, I need to check that payroll has received my paperwork, so THEY can send it to IRD, my "cut off" date is in a week or so !

sorry to sound stupid but I wasnt aware there was a cut off date for organising this stuff - when is it? And what do you need to get from your work, is it a lot of stuff?
When should you start organising this stuff...?

you have to let your employer know 3mths before you want maternity leave when you want it.

you have had to have been working a min 6mths with the same employer, min 10hrs per week,

maternity leave can start 6 wks from your due date.

my suggestion is to ring ird, and get all the forms and information from them)

(remembering that if you need to finish work earlier like i did, i just took unpaid leave).

I believe your employer should be held legally liable for buggering things up for you - you're entitled to what you got and I hope you still get some $$$ somehow !! I got so furious today because of all the reminding I had to do, my TL wasn't in when I started my shift so I had a word to the general manager of the service centre where I work, he spoke to the HR lady, who came to me and said she hadn't received anything (my TL was said she'd already given them to her when I asked about a week ago) !! Luckily I had copies of it all, filled in and signed etc, so she took them, signed on my managers behalf and sent them to payroll, who then send them on to IRD. So payroll finally sent through an email saying they'd received it, and I'm going to give it until the 6th of April before I ring up IRD to see if they have received it. That wasn't the end to my stress though, once the paperwork is turned in to HR they have to issue an approval letter - and she filled in the WRONG ONE for me !! Used the template for someone who had been with the company for 12 months or more, and therefore entitled to slightly different things (eg: top up of IRD payment by the company etc). Luckily I spotted it straight away, or I would have been very disappointed later on I'm still not impressed at all since I signed and turned in ALL required paperwork at the very beginning of *February* and with just over a week before my 'cut off' they still needed ME to remind *them*. ARGH.

Anyway Mrs Frantic, you might want to get started as soon as you're able with working out what dates you want to take. Once that's done you can fill in the papework you need (and yes you can download that from the IRD website yourself) and hand it in. I would be careful though if your HR department or whoever it is says that they only need notification three months prior to the due date as I don't quite think that's true - the IRD is supposed to have the completed and signed off bits and pieces by three months prior, so it pays to be organised. Literally.
