Topic: Stretched muscle? Posted: 30 March 2006 at 9:51am |
I woke up this morning with a pain in my side. Feels like I've stretched a muscle... anyone else had something like this? Its fine when I'm standing, but as soon as I sit down it starts to hurt again... and the dull ache is driving me nuts!

Hope you are feeling better soon - can you try using deep heat or something along those lines.

A nice hot shower helped, for now... still a little sore though.
Thanks for the suggestion, Shelley, but I can't use anything like deep heat because of a blood disorder I have. This is the type of time I wish I could though!

It's fine, Shelley... my particular problem is not exactly rare, but certainly unusual. As long as I know what I can and cannot use/take, and Nathaniel knows as well (or asks the pharmacist when getting stuff for me), then its not a problem!
I actually have von Willebrands Disease, which is a factor 8 (the clotting stuff) deficiency. Its hereditory, and not contageous. Because my blood already does not clot properly (I take twice as long to stop bleeding as a normal person with an identical wound) I cannot take medications that have the side effect of thinning blood, like Asprin. I also cannot take or use preparations that contain not-steroidal anti-inflamitories, such as Deep Heat, as they have a similar effect as asprin on me.

The cool thing about von Willebrands, however, is that it self-corrects in pregnancy! So, while I cannot deliver in a birthing center (cause if something goes wrong it has the potential to go very wrong) I have 2 all natural water births behind me now!
Also, I'm not exactly in the high risk category for a stroke as they are caused by blood clots in the brain!

If the hot shower made it feel a little better, how bout trying heat packs or a hot water bottle? Probably a pain to hold it there while sitting but it might help. Sorry that is the only idea I have, pretty useless really.
