OMG! How big are those suckers...
AND...does anyone else think they taste bad?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset about having to take them...over the moon actually...but after that tiny, itty, bitty ,tasteless, white pill...

put them under your tongue (and curl your tongue back so it doesnt touch them) and then drink. You have minimal taste buds there and then when you drink you automatically swallow it. Works brilliantly!

Ahhhh I know, they're horrid alright . I used to crush them up & put them in a smoothie but I had to drink it fast otherwise the taste got too much.
I still have some left but can't bring myself to take them. Why did they have to make them so huge!

I only had mine at the end of my pregnancy when my iron stores were low, I used to chase it with a glass of water and a hot sweet blackcurrant juice.

You could try Blackmore's new 'Conceive Well' - it has a wider range of nutrients, and is split into two capsules, both tasteless. You still have to take an additional 400mg of Folic Acid though (for aome reason they don't have the recommended 800mg).

I'm willing to suffer! NZPipers suggestion of under the tounge is good, and I already scull it with a massive glass of water.
Also, on my Elevit wonderings, why are they not prettier? I mean, they could have made them soft pink and baby blue like every other pregnancy product! LOL!
I'm just glad DH let me buy them...another step closer to TTC

I just did a google search on Elevit and Blackmores pregnancy and breestfeeding and most people said Elevit were alot smaller than Blackmores so now I am confused!
I am planning on taking a prenatal vitamin from June and am trying to decide which one. I already take Blackmores women's multi so I want to continue with an all in one vitamin (i.e not just folic acid). Catie I just saw the ad for the new Blackmores one but if you have to take more than that then it doesn't seem worth it. How does Elevit compare in size to other vitimins? Also is it cheaper to buy it online (and from where) or is it better to get in from a store?

lol surfer girl! I noticed the hugeness of them as well and thought I'd struggle swollowing them but havent had any problems thankfully.
I havent had a bad taste from them either, having said that, I usually take them with coke or milk to make them go down easier .
For some reason I thought you stopped taking them at the 12 weeks pregnant mark!? Maybe thats just the folic acid only tabs?
I also saw the blackmores, but couldnt be bothered with the 2 tablets side of it and elevit worked out cheaper for more.

you dont have to stop taking them. They are a good all round vitamin and are recommended right through. The little suckers on the inside drain everything out of you!

This may be TMI but when do your bowel motions turn back to a normal colour?? Ive been taking elevit for just over a week not and since about day 3 my motions have been a dark/tar kinda colour (sorry TMI). Just wondering if they go back to normal at any stage??

Apparently it's one of the 'side effects' - see the Medsafe site. I'd imagine they're return to normal once you stop taking them! I suspect, although I'm no expert, the iron in the tablets could be some of the cause...

Yeah I read that on the info brochure thingy too in the box, but thought it may only last a short while (possibly wishful thinking lol). Ah well, its worth it in the end.

Yep its the iron. Your body absorbs only what it needs and the rest is passed out as the black tar. so yep you go back to normal when you stop taking it or when you need more iron and absorb more, like at the end of pregnancy.

Man it freaked me out for the first week. Its a little worrying when your motions change so dramatically.
I never really noticed the size of the pill, nor the taste.. until the beginnings of m/s and now I gag when I take them Hoping that will pass soon.

i tried to take elevit in the first 3 months of pregnancy, but there was really no point as i had severe hypremesis (cant hold down any food or drink) so it just came back up 5 mins later! i think that the size and taste were a factor but not the reason it wouldnt stay down! we are going to ttc again around november/december 2008 and this time im going to stock up on natural iron/folic acid/vitamins instead of the synthetic ones which apparantly can be harmfull.
