Topic: Coming off the pill... Posted: 29 April 2008 at 10:00am |
Does it matter where in your cycle you stop the pill?
Is it better to wait until you have finished a packet, or can you just stop in the middle of your active pills? DH wants to stop on a 'special occasion' (probably my birthday or our anniversary), but they both fall in mid cycle. So, does it matter?
And if you stopped the active pills mid-cycle, would you expect a withdrawal bleed right away?
Thanks

but you do end up getting AF as soon as you stop it, which can leave you a bit tired if it wasn't long since your last one.

I dont know if this is going to help but a year or so ago I forgot to take the pill and ended up taking 2 together later than normal and that brought on AF with cramps as well. Have you ever missed any in the past and its brought on AF?
When I stop taking the pill in June I am going to stop when I get to the last white one, so instead of having the pill AF (from the sugar pills) it will hopefully be the 'real thing'!
Hope that makes sense?!

Sweet, thanks ladies.
Andie, I get very light periods on the pill, so I probably won't get too tired. But thats something I'd never considered, so will keep that in mind
Rianna, I don't actually know what happens if I forget a pill. I haven't missed one by more than 14 hours in 7 years (and then it was only because the airline lost my luggage!). But I'm a bit neurotic like that

If you want to conceive on your special occasion you're probably better off stopping a couple of weeks before so you're more likely to be mid-cycle.

Good point Chelle. DH and I figure because we have no idea how long it might take us to get conceive, we would rather make a 'thing' out of stopping contraception, rather than putting pressure on ourselves to conceive right away. Of course if it happened a couple of weeks later, great, but this way (hopefully) there won't be the disappointment of not conceiving on a particular day - rather we can celebrate our anniversary by letting it become a possibility. If that made any sense?

Almostthere I was going to do the same as you, go off the pill next month. BUT DH and I were talking last night and he has agreed that why wait another month. So as from today I am officially pill free . Having said that, we will wait until next month before we start trying as we come home from Aus Jan 09 and dont want to have children here. So now Im excited but anxious as well! Definitely more excited though!!

I see what you mean rhick :) It was quite an exciting day knowing I purposely wasn't taking the pill when I stopped. I felt quite naughty - even better we'd decided not to tell anyone for a few months so it was a cool feeling :)

Wow Rianna!!! you go!
I know that DH is using this last month as his way to get used to the idea, so I wont hold it against him for that. After this last month there is nothing else to stop us! I cant fall back on the pill etc.

Hehe Kaysey . Its really strange not having to take it. But its also a great feeling knowing that nature will start to take its course.
Totally understand what your saying about DH getting used to the idea. My Dh was saying last year I should pop a baby sooner so we could park in the baby carparks lol!! Oh the minds of men huh!

I can remember taking my last pill, It was soo exciting.
I stopped the pill 6 months before we started TTC. I was put on the pill when I was 18 as I had very irregular af and VERY painful. I had no idea what a true cycle was for me. Turns out I didnt ovulate for that 6 months... so glad I decided to do that.
Good luck ladies, its so exciting knowing that you could have just created a new life.

Thanks Melnel! Yep it is very exciting .
We decided to come off the pill now as I have no idea what my cycle was like pre-pill (been on it for almost 10 years) except that I didnt get much pain. Then went on the pill and have had atrocious pain since !
So here's hoping it happens soon. I have everything crossed except the necessary !
