My damned fingers have started swelling and I can't get my rings off! They move around fine but can't come off. Is it OK to just leave them on and hope that the swelling doesn't get too much worse, or should I try and force them off? If so, does anyone have any ideas for how to temporarily shrink my fingers!

Can you put them under cold water for ages and then try again? I remember having to take mine off near the end of my pregnancy and also having a mission getting them off. Maybe try at different times of the day when they might not be so hot?
What about some sort of greasy hand lotion otherwise?

Yeah I would take them off, if you have to have a c/s they make you take all jewellery off, so better you do it now than risk them cutting them off.
I would try first thing in the morning, you should be less swollen and it will be cold which helps too. If they won't come off on there own try olive oil.

Yep definitely try take them off - your swelling will probably only get worse. And beware, they may not go back to normal size after baby. I just had to get my rings re-sized so I could wear them again, put me back $90    But I'm wearing my wedding rings for the first time in probably at least 6 months and it's SO exciting!

Good luck in getting them off! The cold water and oil sounds a go-er!   Oh and sounds weird but you could try lube if oil doesn't work lol.

Hi ... take them off!! I thought I would leave mine on in the hope that the swelling wouldn't get any worse. Sadly that wasn't the case, in the end I waited until I was very cold then got the cooking oil and poured it all over my finger .... the rings came off, I just had to clean them up afterwards. I heard that if they really get stuck the doctor will cut them off, I didn't want that for my precious rings. Good luck!

Try to get them off and otherwise ask your mw. I second (one hundredth?) the cold water or oil ideas. In the final days of your pregnancy you could swell quite a lot (some do, some don't) in your fingers so I'd do it for that reason.

As for c/s, if they can't get your rings off they'll just cover them with tape. They forgot about mine I think, they weren't taken off or covered at all

Speaking from experience....

Ice cold water (to the point your fingers hurt!!!) and olive oil.

I managed to get my engagement ring off, but had to have my wedding ring cut off.

If you need them cut, go to a jewellers. We went to Pascoes. I wont kid you and say it doesn't hurt, because it does. :(

But mine are off now and my fingers are so much better.

I am going to get the wedding ring looked at later to see if it can be salvaged, if not I'll get a new ring and get this one melted onto it.

Good luck!

I feel your pain flissty, my knuckles swelled at around 27 weeks and it became more of a struggle to get my rings on and off so decided to put them away rather than risk it. I'd go with really icy cold water and cooking oil and that should get them off with a bit of soaking and cajoling!

I have a garnet I'm wearing on that finger for now cos its fitting where before it was always too big for me but I dont know how long that's going to last before it has to be retired too!

Thanks for the advice. I decided to make myself take them off cos I couldn't handle the thought of someone cutting them off after DH went to all the effort of choosing them and getting them made (I'ma very sentimental softy!). I went with ice cubes - took 20 minutes, but we got there. Wedding ring is now on my little finger, though I don't think it will last long, and I've got an old, bigger ring on my wedding finger.
