I need some advice from all you experienced mummies.

Haylie has not slept well at night since she was born and its just getting worse. Last night she was up from 10.30pm until 3am then awake again at 5.30am.

I've tried wrapping her but it doent seem to make a differnce, she seems to get frustrated. And she seems to want to feed all night but i think it might be for comfort.
I've tried to keep her up longer before she goes to bed and i make sure she has a good feed.
She sleeps well from about 7.30 until around 10.30 or 11pm and then after that she just wants to feed or wants comfort. Shes quite happy lying in our bed and as soon as i put her back into her bassinet she cries.

I dont know what to do. I'm so exhausted and dont get to nap during the day because of my 3 yr old.

Does anyone hav any suggestions? I really want to get this sorted now before it becomes a big problem i cant get her out of

Does she sleep well during the day? Does she seem uncomfy? I just wondered if it was worth taking her to a chiro/osteo and see if they can do anything to help. My first thought that maybe she's in a bit of pain/uncomfy

Otherwise I'd just keep her in bed with you. I did this with Daniel alot in the early days just for my own sanity to try and get some good sleep and worked on getting him to sleep properly during the day in his own bed, and then worked on night time.

She sleeps really well during the day. last night she did seem to be uncomfortable but I think she may have had wind. She hasn't been bringing up wind at all but I think she's starting to get it now.

I don't think she would be in any pain since shes so happy all day.

I'm a bit worried about keeping her in bed with us, and I don't really sleep as I'm aware she's there so I'm always waking to check on her.

at 2 weeks old this sounds normal. they dont know night from day really yet. you could try waking her at 10ish before she wakes and feeding her while she is still drowzy and she may sleep longer then. keep it dark and quiet and maybe even feed her somewhere other than your bed. i would keep up with the wrapping tho. i know eden makes all sorts of weird "get me out of this wrap" noises when i wrap her but if i dont then i know she wont sleep as well at all.
good luck!

oh lots of babies do a cluster feed just before a big sleep so if she is confused about the time then it sounds right that her cluster feed is in the middle of the night when you need sleep, so maybe if you can try and feed her up between 7-10 when she is sleeping it may change the pattern.

Thanks Bizzy, I might try feeding her tonight from about 7pm instead of letting her sleep. Maybe I'll change her nappy and get her into her pjs in between time to wake her. I think she is confused about day and night. Its just so damn hard on me. And I often put her back to bed without winding her or when she's not ready just cos at 1 or 2am I am so tired I can't wait to put my head back on the pillow.
So I'm probably causing more problems.

The baby whisperer has a good theory on babies wind. she said that too often we pick them up and try to wind them immediatley but in fact we should let them lie on their backs on our laps after we have finished feeding for a couple of mins or two to let the wind "centralise" even a bit of a massage helps... we've had a bit of success here with that, normally i am not good at winding at all.

let us know how it goes if you try and change the routine...

Yeah I was also going to suggest that she was cluster feeding at the wrong time. I was shown a good way to get wind up which was to lay him face down across my knees and massage/rub his back. Just make sure you have a cloth on the floor for any spills. If he was ever crying this normally helped settle him too.
Good luck

You'd think I would know all this with Haylie being my second.
I completely forgot about the cluster feeding and have noticed that when I don't sit her up straigt away she brings up wind as soon as I put her over my shoulder. I didn't even realise there was a connection. I'll take more care from now on and let her lie there a little longer.

I feel like I've completely forgotten everything.

I found a book called Babywise by Gary Ezzo really helpful to establish good sleeping patterns at night. It talks about a routine but gives you the freedom to keep it flexible to suit you and your baby. And no controlled-crying etc. Its a small book and easy to read and I found it invaluable to organise the nights.

My boy used to keep us awake between 1 and 5am every night but once I tried the book, he changed to sleeping from 10pm to 7 am with only 2 feeds inbetween, going down to 1 feed from 4 weeks old.

Still no luck lasst night, I really think its something to do with putting her in our bedroom.
She sleeps in her bassinet in the lounge during the day and at night I put her in our room. Maybe its cos its so quiet.

Tonight I'm going to try and bath her at 10pm when she wakes instead of 7pm and maybe it will relax her and she will sleep better.
I have to just keep trying.

cat007, I think I'll try and get a copy of that book. I've heard others say how great it is.
