Do you have any ideas or magic solutions, for getting a 4 month old to sleep when she would rather be a night owl?

Sophie is a placid laid back baby, but has just now (in the last week) decided that she does not want to sleep at all until after 11pm. Isabella gets up at 6am .... add in Sophie’s two night feeds and another twice where she needs to be resettled and we are getting no sleep!!

We have tried:
* keeping her up longer in the afternoon
* bath right before bed
* xtra top up feeds
* rocking, patting, music mobiles etc

Any ideas that we should be trying?

TIA

Edited to add: I think we are also dealing with the Australian time difference and daylight saving factor.

I remember having this problem with Kobe when he was little and we used to jsut have to leave him to cry. We were on routine feeding so knew he wasnt hungry, I think he just wanted to be held. It was really hard but we made sure he stuck to the rountine. If we did go in to him we wouldnt talk or hold him so he wasnt rewarded for being awake. Hope Sophie gets sorted soon!

If you can be bothered looking, there a quite a few threads dedicatd to this subject!!
It seems to be something that "switches" on in the 4/5 months old babies heads that they need to unlearn those good sleep habits. Persevere, she will come out of it. We did the cry it out thing. Eventually he got the picture! Even more frustrating was that he never slept right through until he was 9 months old, so at 4/5 months, I was still only getting 4 or 5 hours max before he woke again.
I will see if I can find some and bump them up for you.
Big hugs to you!

Robyn thank you so much for advice....think we will have to try letting her cry, as like you we know she is not hungry. On reflection because of the move, I think we have been jumping at every sound .....oopps (some thing we would not normally do).

Jacobsmama - you are so right with you description of something 'switching' that is exactly what it seems like...now off to search for those threads.....thank you

Hopefully Jack 'switches' to good sleeping habits when he gets to 4 months since he has bad sleeping habits now

Hannah is almost 6 months and a few weeks ago started to just cry and cry uncontrollably when I put her to bed at night even tho she was going to sleep during the day no probs. So I ended up holding her until she went to sleep then putting her to bed, which was fine for a while and it was just easier Then she started to wake up as soon as I put her into bed asleep, so I decided I had to get hard again. Last night I put her to bed awake and braced myself for hours of crying... And you know what? She was asleep in a few minutes just like her other day sleeps!! I guess I was just too scared of her crying for hours to give her the chance to do it herself! Anyway, the moral of my novel is maybe try putting her to bed awake when she is getting tired and then just leaving her to it. Hope things are improving for you and you getting more sleep.

Like Annie said... babes switch in and out of sleep patterns. Sometimes you just have to do anything you can to get yourself through a horrible couple of weeks and then magically she'll start sleeping again. They do it to test us I'm sure.
