    Posted: 12 June 2008 at 10:55am
Hi guys,

I know when I was pregs with DD some here was talking about belly bands. I was thinking of getting it this time around...so my questions are:

1) Do these bands help hold up your Tummy? I want to take pressure of my CS scar....as I am feeling a bit heavy already and CS scar is a bit tender.

2) Can you buy them in NZ? if so where? and how much?

3) If you have one was it any good??

I have one I never use, would offer to send it to you but it's XL so prob wouldn't fit you

It was reasonably cheap at Pumpkin Patch, maybe $12-$13 or so? I can't remember.

Not sure about the c-sect scar thingie, I only used it to hold my pre-preg pants up when i was first preg but now they don't even come up my thighs so i don't use it anymore.

I found mine (form Pumpkin Patch) stretched faster than my belly grew. So while it was fine for hiding the fact that my pants weren't done up it didn't actually provide any support.

I don't use it at all now as anything with buttons and zips (undone or not) is just too damn uncomfortable.

I found mine a bit annoying. It stretched and sort of slipped around. Between that and those big preggy pant elastic bands I just always felt like I never knew what was pulled up and what wasn't!!!!! In saying that I still did use it a bit as it meant you could keep wearing your normal tops for longer.

The mellonbellies ones are great - only i'd advise getting them a size smaller than you actually are. Mine fit just like a fashion accessory instead of giving me any support. I ended up taking it in. I wear it now and it sorta helps with taking pressure off my c/s wound. You can also get elastic ones with velcro from the physio at the hospital. That was a blessing in later stages of pregnancy - really held the bump up!

I too have MelonBellies ones, black and white and in the last trimester have found them to be a godsend, fashionwise! Agree with MissAngel, more for looking good than support though.

Check this out...

smileybelt

I used one from 31 weeks as recommended by my physio. They are basically made out of wetsuit material with really strong velcro - great support for the pelvis and back.

You can also get them on loan from physios (or I did anyway)

Or you can try this...

Egg baby belt

Its probably not as supportive though, but slightly cheaper.

Hope that helps

I got two of these ones and they are great. I found wearing them quite comfy ad they held my pants up aswell.

I used a bellybra during my first pregnacy. It has a wide elastic band that fits under the belly and helps support the tummy. I found it helped with my sciatic nerve pain.
