Can anyone advise if they have had to administer Omeprazole (Losec) liquid to their child and if so the best way to do it? We have to give Oliver 4mls a day and I am giving it in a syringe, but he hates it! Also when I give it to him, he gets terrible wind, cries heaps and we have to wait at least 30 minutes before I can get him to take a feed. I know the Crying Over Spilt Milk website recommends you follow the drugs with a feed, but he just won't - due to the wind I think.

Any suggestions welcome...

Maybe you should try post this in the Reflux and Allergy support thread, if you haven't already? Sorry I can't help, we have only tried all the usual things for wind (infacol, gripe water, rhugar, and gaviscon for reflux).

Hope things get easier for you both.
Chloe (4 years) and Oliver (3 years).

Mercedes was a Losec baby but she was on the granules rather than the liquid. Research I did suggests the granules work more effectively than the suspension form but at the time, that was just what our paed prescribed. I would just shake teh granules into her mouth then stick a bottle in it and her feeding would wash them down. She didn't exactly love it, but it worked.

Sienna was on liquid Ceclor for her kidneys and I used to add it to a small amount of EBM in a bottle and feed it to her before her last night feed.

i have a 4mnths old girl who is bein treated for really bad reflux on omeprazole , we tried with the syringe but she kept spitting it out so i just mix it in with her bottle its the only way i can seem to get her to take it, its a shame its not as affective that way as if it were givin on its own. have u tried putting him on a non reflux formula (if not breastfeeding)
