Topic: Male Infertility Posted: 15 June 2008 at 4:02pm |
Hi there. I am new to this forum and just wanted to know if there are any other couples out there having trouble conceiving due to partner not having any sperm in his semen?
We have been trying for two years or more now, and thought it was due to me having endometriosis. I had a Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy and dye studies last month and they found endo and uterine polyps.
The surgeon removed the polyps and endo so we thought we would be ok now, but my husbands sperm test has just came back and he has no sperm at all.
We are due to go to the specialist on Tuesday and my husband will do another sperm test then. I am just not sure what the next step will be now?
Also does anybody know if there are IVF specialists in Invercargill? We are based in Queenstown.
Sorry about the long essay. Thanks for reading!!

He possibly has retrograde ejaculate? I think what happens is that things shoot back up into the bladder instead of out. Try googling it! In that case though, there is something they can do - IVF with ICSI. What they do there is remove the sperm from the testes with a needle (even *I'm* crossing my legs at the thought of that!) and then inject the individual sperm into your eggs.
That's the only thing I know of though ...
Sorry that's probably absolutely no help at all! I hope your specialist appointment goes well and you have something to move forward with!

I think you have to go to Dunedin for the specialist as that is where a girl i know has to travel from invercargill to for their appointments

Just wanted to say all the best and give your husband lots of support coz he probably feels like crap.
My husband had a couple of low sperm tests and the specialist (fertility assoc in akl) was great at explaining that it can be a cyclical thing and you need to do several tests over a period before you can conclude anything. He had a graph from a study which showed men's results in general and it really helped to pick up my husband's mood. This may have no relevance to you, but just wanted to share in case it helped.
Until we finally conceived I hadn't realised how much it was getting him down and affecting his masculinity.
Hope your appointment goes well.

Hi there, well i saw the gyno yesterday and to be honest she was hopeless. First thing she said was that she has never seen a result with no sperm!! She did admit that she doesn't deal with infertility, more with endo, so i will go to GP this week a get a referral to a fertility specialist!
A complete waste of a drive from Queenstown to Invercargill. She could have told me over the phone!
Will let you know how we go!

Hi, i went to my GP this morning and she is fantastic. She printed off all our results etc and posted them to Barbara Richards in Dunedin. She is meant to specialise in IVF, so thats great. I will just go private to try and get it sorted asap. I don't want to wait another year for anything to happen. I am 32 and my husband is 42.
Thanks for your posts!
