Topic: Spotting Posted: 20 June 2008 at 2:06pm |
Hi there!
My name is Gill and I'll be 9 weeks pregnant on Monday! A bit terrified, as I started spotting yesterday. My doctor said just to rest up, but my a girlfriend of mine who has miscarried said to have a scan asap.
HELP!
The spotting isn't that bad (dark brownish) and light. Just so anxious.

Hi Gill,
You can spot for different reasons, i know some women spot through out their early pregnancy and the baby is fine, others aren't so lucky tho.
If your doctor says not to worry then don't stress your self out, it is probably nothing to worry about.
If you do find yuorself worrying alot tho then go get a scan.

The spotting could be due to your body thinking that it's time for a period? I had spotting with both pregnancies around the 8 week mark and all was fine. Try to relax as much as you can

Dark brownish is suppose to be ok as it is normally old blood, but if it turns pink or red then I would go back to the doc or phone you midwife as they will most likely want to do a scan just to be sure.

If its red or pink and accompanied by cramps see your doctor again. Alot of women I have spoken to had brownish spotting right around the 8 week mark so it must be a common trend.
I have had 2 m/c and neither was brown spotting they were both red blood.
Hope I have helped you out chicky. If you have ANY concerns don't be afraid to go back to your doctor thats what they are there for

Hi there,
I had exactly the same thing last Friday until this Monday, and absolutely panicked. I was just over 11 weeks pregnant at the time.
Anyway, I whipped off for a scan and saw the bubba all safe and comfy in there.
My obstetrician said its quite normal to have some spotting (about 60% of women do) as long as its not with cramps and not too heavy.
To be safe, go and get a quick scan, but I am sure everything will be perfect!

I've had brown spotting and even bright red bleeing a number of times in my last two pregnancies. and everything has been fine, but it's so hard not to worry! If you think a scan would put your mind at rest then there's no harm in asking your doc to refer you altho at this stage on a Fri you prob wouldn't be able to get one till sometime next week.

ditto to what other have said.
With my DD i had red blood at 8 weeks, 10 weeks and then a blood bath at 18 weeks and she is fine!!
With this one I had brown blood from 8 weeks and this bub is fine too...fingers crossed bub stays put and grows.
Dont worry if it comes with cramps then perhaps not so good. But dont stress and dont analyze every niggle you have either. From what I hear you would know these cramps....Good luck! I am sure bub will be fine!

Hey Hun,
First **hugs** cos I know how totally scary this must be for you.
Last July I had a miscarriage, it started out as one pinky bleed on the Tuesday and then turned to brown spotting, I had a scan on the Thursday which showed a 5 week sac when I should have been 7 weeks, then the friday I woke up to severe cranping and bleeding(DARK red blood and huge clots).
This pregnancy I had the same thing! Pink Bleed, then brown spotting! Had a scan, showed 6 weeks old baby with a heartbeat, the brown spotting carried on but then randomly stopped, and Im now 10 days over due lol!
So, try not to stress just yet as things can turn out to be just fine and sometimes they just dont know what causes the spotting, like in my case with this pregnancy.
Try and rest as much as you can and not stress too much, if the spotting carrys on I would ask for a scan for your piece of mind.
Good Luck

I'm a bleeder too - I had a gush of bright red blood at about 8 weeks (and a heart attack!! ), then another lot of bleeding (brown blood) several days later (my OB said if it's brown and it's not changing, it's fine), and then slight spotting again yesterday and I can assure you, I've had 2 scans and the little monster is bouncing around in there happy as a clam!! I'd suggest you take the advice to rest, but try not to worry yourself - likely worrying will be worse for baby than a slight bleed.

Yeah sometimes they just dont know what causes these bleeds, like in my case with this pregnancy, I spotted brown for nearly two weeks, even afer my scan which showed baby with a hearbeat and all.
They couldnt tell me why I was spotting!
But definitly just try and relax, like ginger said, worry can be worse, cos you will stress yourself out.

Hey guys...
Update:
Went to emerg today,as I just needed a piece of mind, course they can't do a scan till Monday, but they DID say that my tummy was twice the size as it should be at almost 9 weeks...
I did have a scan at 6 weeks, and they only saw one heartbeat. Arrrrrrrr, so confused. Trying to just relax and enjoy my pizza

Hmmm, maybe I shouldn't mention that I had a scan at 6 weeks and saw only one heartbeat, and then bleeding at 9 weeks and a scan showed TWO of the little monkeys - they're now twenty months!
Good luck on Mon!

So when you had your scan did you only see one sac Maya? Then still end up with twins.
My DH would love twins it runs in his family and apparently mine to according to my mum.

Yup, my girls were monochorionic which means they shared a gestational sac and a placenta. They had separate amniotic sacs(dividing membrane) inside the gestational sac, but that was far too small to see on the 6 week scan. At 9 weeks they could clearly see both babies and the dividing membrane.
Fraternal twins run thru the maternal line so if they are on your side of the family you have an increased chance of having them, but DH's side doesn't affect your chances. If you have a daughter tho he can pass the gene on to her.
And identical twins like mine are completely random. There are no twins in my family at all.

Twins run in my family on mom's side!!! Eeeeek. Will for sure let you know when I find out.
Was your tummy big at 9 weeks as well?

Very intersting about twins, I had a dating scan and showed me I was at 4 weeks, and I could only see one sac. My DH wants to have boy and girl twins lol, ive told him you really dont have a choice, but its cute listening to what he wants in children.
