Well after 4 weeks of blood tests every 48hrs...with dips and rises...and 3 scans, I was diagnosed with a failed pregnancy.
There was a sac but no baby. The sonographer said it was similar to a blighted ovum. The sac on the 3rd scan showed that it had an irregular shape and was collapsing on itself.
So I went to my doctor the next day (fri) and she referred me to the hospital for an urgent d&c. As they don't do them over weekends, I knew it would happen til the next week. Come midday Monday I hadn't heard anything so contacted the hospital. They said they hadn't got my referral so said they'd call my doctors. My doctor phoned back a bit later saying that she spoke to hospital and that I had to wait until I was bleeding to get it done! By this stage I was over it, and wanted to end things......remembering here, that I had known for 4 weeks something was not right.
So I phned the hospital myself and the bookings lady put me onto a surgeon. She said given that I had been having my hcg tested and that I'd had 3 scans, she was happy to do the op. She just asked for the name of who did the scans so she could get copies to make sure. So she told me to come into hospital at 8am the next morning.
Then....my doctors nurse phones me back to say that the hospital phoned and I have a booking in another 9 days! I said I was going in the next day, so would phone the clinic who contacted her. So I did...and they said that was the termination clinic and given that I had no baby in the sac, that if I had actually gone to that one, then they wouldn't have performed the d&c (they only do TOP's not d&c's)....
So in the end I am glad that I took it upon myself to get this sorted. Something I shouldn't have had to do really.
Anyway......long story, sorry about that.
But I'm just glad its all over....oh..except during the op (general) they put a tube down my throat. I woke up finding it hard to breath (they'd taken tube out while I was asleep) and coughing heaps. They had to get anesthetists (sp) back to give me steriods to help me breath. So I was in recovering for nealy 2 hours and no one bothered to let my partner know, so he was starting to worry as they'd told him I'd be out in an hour all up!
Its been 3 days since op, and my throat has been really sore with a cough getting worse and finding it hard to breath. So I went to doctors this morning and she said that my throat was scrapped due to the tube and throat is inflammed and an infection has developed!! So more steriods and antibiotics..........
Oh I can't wait until I feel better and can move on!
Sorry about the long story.....its just good to get it off my chest!

That really really sucks, it so does. I am so sorry that it ended this way.

I had scrapes down my throat and up on the roof of my mouth for ages after my D&C too, i found it very hard to eat because there was a little flap of the roof of my mouth that would get moved around where they had obviously scraped the tube while putting it in/taking it out..

Sometimes you really do have to wonder about the whole booking systems and stuff.   I got to mine at 8 in the morning having not eaten since 11pm the night before, and had to sit around until 2pm until they finally wheeled me off to theatre, by the time i was out and actually allowed to eat i was ready to knaw my own arm off!

Then when i went back to get my baby (which i had wanted to get the tests done, but wanted to pick it up after that) I went to work early for my afternoon shift and ducked downstairs to arrange for when to pick it up sometime in that next week, the lady said to come back in half an hour because the lady that deals with that was at lunch, which i did, to find the proper lady, who said to me "oh yeah i dealt with that, they're on their way down with it now" I nearly cried cos i told her i was going to be on afternoon shift and couldn't pick it up right then.. she told me it was already on it's way, and that i COULD PUT IT IN MY LOCKER until i finished work. I was so angry with her.

In the end i rung mike and he came out of class and picked it up to take home.

Wow I am really sorry for your loss and for the fact that its been made as hard as possible for you to deal with. Sometimes the whole medical system has so much to answer for. I've been wondering about you and hoping everything was ok. Take care of yourself, all the best for the future.

Wow - my first post on OhBaby and it's in here

I know you've been through an amazingly traumatic time that no one should have to go through but each day will make the pain a little less. I'm not going to tell you the pain will go away because it doesn't.
You're an extremely strong person with a bit heart so while I know your heart is broken, I know you will find the courage to get through this.
Take each day as it comes.....don't be afraid to cry because you don't have to be strong for everyone else hon , and remember You're not alone

Hi hun,

Some of the TTC girls were asking about you this week. Have been missing you!

I am so sorry you too had a crap experience. These medical professionals are dealing with extremely distraught couples. You would think that they could show a little empathy.

I laid a complaint about one of the women we saw.

Hugs to lovely, nice to see you back.

So sorry to hear about your crappy experience. The medical system often really doesn't treat people with respect and that really makes a horrible situation more difficult than it has to be. Best wishes for your healing journey.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal....I would have thought that once they knew the pregnancy wasn't viable they would do the MC otherwise who knows how long it could have taken. My one way of coping (after a day or so) was knowing that once you have had the D & C you can start getting yourself ready to start trying again.

Great that you took control of things

Thankyou for the hugs ladies! Its has been quite an ordeal. And now to finish off feeling under the weather has been crappy!
My midwife sent me some forms to get bloods done once a week for 3 weeks to check when the hcg is back to 0.
I thought I might go back to charting once I'm over this throat thing to see how long it will take to get back to 'normal'. I'm not too sure if hcg in the system will change my temps? FF didn't mention that. Anyway, just a thought as it'd be nice to know what my body is doing.

And welcome to OB Shadowdance...nice to see you over here :)

I started temping about 3 days after the D&C and my temps were higher than normal, plus I appear to have ovulated about a week later than "normal".

Did notice that I had a lot of fertile CM every couple of days for a couple of days once the bleeding had stopped and I spotted at ovulation which has never happened before.

My HCG 14 days (CD15) after the D&C was 19 and I ovulated 13 days later... I didnt have another HCG done as it was so low anyway.

Hope this is a bit helpful, oh and I went into the hospital fine and came out with a raging cold... I was there for 4 hours total! GA really knocks you about huh!
