So... how long did it take your babies to progress from commando crawling, to rocking on hands and knees, and then to actual coordinated crawling?

About 2 maybe 2 and 1/2 months for Michaela.  She was really fast at commando crawling by then.  She kept trying to crawl on hands and knees but inevitably went backwards then one day, about 2 months after she started commando crawling she spotted a new toy on the floor and that was that she took off, luckily I had the camera handy and both DH and I were there to witness.

A long time, Daniel commando crawled well at 7 months. And has only started "proper" crawling since his birthday a couple of weeks ago.

Coop was about the same as Michaela, roughly 2 months. He still reverts back to commando every now and then, so funny!

Jack's just starting the transition now, sort of does that weird thing where one side is up and the other side is still commando crawling... very funny to watch (esp when he loses his balance and rolls over or falls flat on his face! )

Breanna never progressed to normal crawling .. she commando crawled for months and then just got up and walked.

Doctors, current mw and other 'professionals' have said not to stress about it - commando crawling is good for upper arm strengthening.

The longer they stay on their tummies the better for their brain development, the whole crossing over movement helps to develop a balanced brain so the long time crawlers might be geniuses!

In saying all of that, my friend was a bottom shuffler then got up and walked and she is probably one of the most intelligent people I know, a forensic scientist, so maybe all my time at teachers college was wasted learning these things...

I'm not stressing about it at all - its actually amazing watching all the changes!

He started commando crawling a few weeks ago, and last weekend started pushing up on hands and knees. I've also spotted him moving a leg in a proper crawl motion a couple of times.

I guess I'm more thinking about how long I have left before having to completely babyproof the house.... He's only 5 and a half months!

We never had commando crawling - just straight up onto hands and knees, then backwards the n forwards in the space of  6 of weeks. The same day she started to crawl forwards she then started pulling herself up on the furniture! She was walking at 10.5months though! Just checked her baby book, was crawling at 9 months.

Maya never commando crawled, she just up and crawled at 8 1/2 months then walked at 10.

Gremlins both started backwards commando creeping about 5 mths, Mercedes didn't four point crawl till about 9 1/2 months and Sienna progressed to bottom shuffling around 9 1/2 mths, and eventually crawling at about 11 mths.

Lachlan was a camando crawler, and it wasnt till we were at one of his swimming lessions they put a big foam mat on the water for babies to crawl/walk across and the instructor put him on his hands and knees and off he went! So yea it was a very kool moment the whole class got to see his frist 'proper' crawl.

He still sometimes comando crawls, he does a bit of both.
