Topic: Storms... Posted: 19 July 2008 at 6:52pm |
We're having the mother of all storms here in New Plymouth at the moment. I HATE HATE HATE with a passion, thunder and lightning. With each clap of thunder the house vibrates - I can feel it through my shoes. And each lightning strike shows clearly through the thermal-backed curtains as a stark white light - even though I have the light on inside. My glass bowl on the bookcase rattles, my lighter that is sitting on my study book on the chair next to me even moves with the strength of the thunder. And DF is at his parents and I have no car.

And the lights just flickered, and if the power goes off (which I think it may) I will have nothing except my cellphone and a torch.
ETA: We get it quite bad as it comes in off the sea, and we're about ooooohhhh....50m from the port??

This morn we had the LOUDEST thunder I've ever bloody heard, must have been right above us! Woke up the whole household and happened about 10 times ...totally out of nowhere I swear I almost soiled myself! Shook the doors and all

Poor you! I used to hate thunder and lightening but quite it now - especially if snuggled up in bed. We had a wicked storm when we were tenting in Tauranga once and it was the freakiest thing being in a tent - the whole thing just lit up like a light had been turned on.
Hope it passes for you soon!!

Ick, I too hate Thunder and Lightening... it's more the thunder that gives me the willies, even more the bolt lightening with the huge sonic sized BOOM after it

Hang in there Kate! lol it is pretty rough out there - we just went and got fish and chips from Terry's on St Aubyn Street and there was a massive pool of water outside their door, lol Am glad that Ivy is enjoying it all! The rain seems to have died off now, would be weird if the power did go out, that hardly ever happens here - though a bunch of street lights are out at the moment.

Yeah thankfully it seems to have died down...had a few power surges, one it stayed off for a few seconds which was kinda eerie....actually, now that a couple of seconds has passed I'm reversing my opinion on this
Good old Terry's - thats where we allllllways go - DF won't buy from anywhere else!!!

Phew... we just escaped it all then! We've been up there for a few days and it rained the entire time (not unlike the rest of the country!) but no loud storms like that. Thank goodness we came home early this afternoon! I don't much like the loud ones

ooo I like thunder storms, especially at night when you can just tuck into a warm cosy bed and listen to the wind and rain outside!
Sucks to be on your own though. Charge the cell phone before the next surge

And me as well. Love it so long as I'm inside. I understand why it freaks people out though.

We have that storm crossing over us at the moment, so glad that Nigel got home before it started pouring with rain.
