When I had Jack one of DH's collegues and his wife bought us a gift for Jack and a huge lasagne that I cut in 4 and froze. It was wonderful as we had the lasagne on days when things went a bit pearshaped and only had to reheat it and out a few frozen veges in the microwave.

They are due with #2 on 8th Aug and I would like to return the favour. I am good a lasagne but thought I should maye make soemthing different for them. Any suggestions? Would something for dinner be useful or something like muffins and/or cake for all those visitors that pop in? I am trying to get organised as I will do my monthly shop this week.

I've found both useful! I did heaps of baking and froze it when I was preg just coz I enjoyed baking but it's been great having muffins, loaves etc. in the freezer to take out for snacks and school lunches and when we have visitors. But have also found the meals people have given us absolute Godsends!

i have only ever been given meals when i had my last baby and must say my husband really appreciated it (i was in hospital for 5 days). so yeah i would go for the meal, visitors should be bringing their own snacks!

Yeah, both is good. My aunt gave us a whole chilly bin filled with baking goodies and they were wonderful for visitors and also as yummy easy snacks when I was super hungry from breast feeding.

The meals were great too - maybe do a canneloni dish? I used the recipe on the back of the San Remo canneloni tube packs but substitute cream cheese for ricotta and canned tomato pasta sauce for the one they suggest you make from scratch for ease and to keep the cost down.

You could make a shepherds pie, or bacon and egg pie.

MIL made us a fruitcake which was great cos it lasts a long time too, well it didn't in our house, but can keep for awhile.

Yeah or some muffins, even mini ones, they would freeze okay
