Topic: Discharge (Sorry TMI)! Posted: 06 August 2008 at 8:54pm |
Hi Guys,
Just a bit of concern re the discharge I am getting....OK so I know that there is discharge in pregnancy and I had it with DD however it seems heavier this time around. I am using a liner and having to change it half way thru the day because it is damp....And it seems watery not the normal type.
I am worried that my water is leaking...even tho none of my scan showed any thing abnormal.
My AIL lost her baby at 5 months due to her water leaking and baby getting a infection....and that is just at the back of my mind!
Bub is happily kicking away in there so I guess baby is ok....but why is so heavy this time around?
I called MW and she thinks its ok unless it becomes heavier....and this has been going on for weeks now.
Ignore me if you think I am over reacting...and tell me to get over it!!

Do you think you can get a referral form from your midwife for a check up scan?? I would ask, just to put your mind at ease.

If it was the waters it would smell like semen, the smell was pretty unmissable when mine were leaking. Also if you are really concerned then ask you midwife about having the swab test done. The water pools near your cervix and then they can swab to test if it is the waters or not. Also other things to try and note, when mine were leaking it would mostly happen when I shifted position or when baby was moving around a lot, so different to normal discharge so maybe try and take note (if you are feeling it come out that is, sorry I couldn't think of a pleasant way to write that).

Roskana I had leaking waters with my dd no 2 but it gushed then leaked slowly and it has a sweet kind of smell, ended up in hospital at 24 weeks and 28 weeks , your waters do replenish all the time so I would not be to distressed but would certainly get it seen to if you are worried, I ended up having her at 30 weeks due to a blood haemorage .....

Yah I noticed that it is heavier during the day when I am am and walking around and baby is bouncing around in there...however I havnt tried to smell it so not sure what it smells like...it cerainly doesnt smell like Wee Wees (Sorry!!) .
I have a scan booked on 21st of August...I will be 24 weeks ...do you think I am ok to wait two weeks or should I get one done early? I am on the plane tomorrow to Wellington and I hope that the ride is not going to affect the baby if there is some thing wrong...man I am freaking out now!!

If you are freaking out then I would ring your midwife because the stress won't be doing either of you any good. She could probably arrange for you to have the swab test done today, the results are instant as it changes colour if it picks up amniotic fluid so you don't have to wait for results.

Good idea to get it checked out Roksana.
I hope everything turns out fine as im sure it will be.
Sounds like something I will be looking forward too since it seems normal through pregnancy.

Leaking amnicotic fluid is not normal but discharge is , I myself don't have too much discharge at all with any of my 3 pregnancies, Good luck Roskana hope it is nothing too serious and better to get it checked especially if your heading away you'll just worry the whole time

MW just Rang and said they dont do those swobs any more as they gave too many false positives and negetives.....Hmm....The discharge seems low today...but I think because baby has moved up as all the kicks are on top now!
Oh Well will keep an eye on it!

Roksana, I'd stick with the 21 Aug scan. I think you just have heavy-ish discharge.
What happens when you have been in bed all night and get up in the morning? If it's just usual discharge heaviness (what you'd get during the day) then you have nothing to worry about. Only if it gushes - then it's more likely to be amnio fluid.
