Okay, help required!!!! lol..
I'm having problems picking 3 pieces of music for the ceremony - specific something to walk down the aisle to! (please dont suggest that revolting butterfly kisses song.)
Problem being, my music taste is somewhat unconventional, and what I listen to just isnt gonna work (techno/metal). We need something for me to walk in to, something while we're signing the register and something for when we're leaving.. I didnt think it was going to be so hard!! I HATE R&B music as well, so thats completely out of the question :P

haha! Are you sure you wouldn't like to use 'The Prodigy - Smack my Bitch Up' ?
How about some instrumentals? We had 'Ennio Morricone - The Mission' and 'Canon in D' for entering and leaving the church.

I walked down the aisle/path to Brooke Fraser - Arithmetic. Now the new Ad for channel 2 has it on there and it makes me well up nearly every time I hear it

We went to a wedding once where they were huge muppet fans and they used the song from Muppet Treasure Island (Kermit & Ms Piggy)....was so sweet...thing its called something like "Love led us here..."
Or the other ones could be:
Love Me Do - Beatles
Love Me Tender - Elvis
Lets Do It, Lets fall in love - Cole Porter (lots of people sing it....but cute lyrics!)
Fidelity - Regina Spektor
Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer
Dream a little dream of me - Louis Armstrong
God Only Knows - Beach Boys
Love Cats - The Cure
Love Her Madly - The Doors
Praise You - FatBoySlim
Sweetest Thing - U2
Try a little tenderness - Otis Redding

Check out the CD called "symphonic rock" or something like that. Its a double cd done by the sydney orchestra and its brilliant. Has all sorts of songs done in instrumental so really cool.
Songs like: Living on a prayer.
Am at work but have the cd at home so will give you more details when I get home!

If you like techno-ish kinda stuff have you thought about something from one of your cds? we had heaps of the wild cds and there were quite a few songs i loved from on there.
Also, the last song that mikes going to have playing while he waits for me is da-rude sandstorm cos that's his fav song and i think it kinda builds up to me coming in.
We also are having brooke fraser shadow-feet for me, butterfly kisses - lol (for my girls to walk to their daddy) and during the register we are having the veronicas - speechless. recessional - will be dj Sammy's version of heaven - a little spicier than the bryan adams version.
We're pretty alternative-ish, don't really like the sop too much - but i do like to go for songs that have nice words to them.

I walked up the aisle to Arithmetic as well
Then we had Finn Brothers' Won't Give In for signing the register and Slice of Heaven for the end.
If you have a search on the weddings.co.nz discussion forums (in general chat area) there are some really good threads on wedding music. I know there were a couple of people on there who were using instrumental versions of "metal" music for their music choices. And I think someone else had a solo guitar (maybe?) playing a favourite song which wouldn't have been appropriate with the words

We had Princess Bride theme song for arriving, Dire Straits 'Latest Trick' live version for signing of the register it has an awesome sax solo. and Queen's My Best Friend at the end.
Went to a load of trouble and never really heard any of them as we had an outdoor wedding, and the sound carried..
The music was probably the biggest let down on an otherwise perfect day.
We didn't have a first dance, one of my fellow NZWP 08 brides had the starting riff from GnR Sweet Child of Mine as her intro, very cool

It took me aaaages to get our music right. Here is what we had:
On my arrival at the venue - Canon in D Major
Walking down the Aisle: Only Time by Enya
Signing the Register: Over the Rainbow by Hayley Westenra and Celtic Woman, And Heavan DJ Sammy (Candle light version)
Walking back down the Aisle: All you need is love by The Beatles
Our first dance was a medley I put together of: Nights in while satin, Everything (Michael Buble) and Crazy little thing called love. Approx 30 - 40 seconds of each song.
Are you on NZWP? There was a Oct 07 bride that had similar taste as you but I cant remember what she had in the end. You could PM her.

I am quite a musical person so I had my BM's walk into Canon in D. I walked into Trumpet Voluntary played by 2 trumpters there live. I have Storybook Love by Mark Knofpler while we all signed the pieces of paper. We walked out to Dave Dobbyn's Oughta be in Love.

I had the same dilemma as you when I got married, neither my husband or I listen to your every day 'romantic' music that is common place at weddings.
We ended up with music from Led Zeppelin, The Ramones and The Vines. Odd to others perhaps, but it suited us.
We went through all the types of music we liked and found the more 'appropriate' songs from those bands.
