Don't be in a room with him that is really stuffy. Taking them outside in the cold all rugged up helps - which sounds totally dumb I know. Baby vicks is great especially on their feet

Taking them out into the cold air is really good for it.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Whenever my little brother had croup my mum would turn the shower on hot and steam the bathroom up. He'd sit in there breathing in the steam which seemed to help clear it.

Steam is the big one, Maya had it at 15 mths and I was told to take her into a steamy bathroom and sit in there with her for as long as possible. I also put vicks in a bowl of boiling water under her cot for the vapours but I like Becks and Stacey's idea about vicks on the feet too, I didn't think of that one!

Vicks on the feet is awesome. We didn't have baby vicks so just dumped some vaseline on his feet and then some normal vicks on top of that and it worked fantastically.

Yeah steam is what we were advised with Spencer, he didn't quite have croup but sounded croupish and the doc advised getting him to inhale steam vapours. Apart from the steam and the vicks not much else you can do as all the cough syrups are for over 2s.

If he gets worse tell her to take him to the doc as croup is nastier the younger they are. Maya had to have a shot of Redipred (steroids) and ventolin thru a spacer when she had it.

That one came from my mum when the boys were sick a little while ago and coughing so much. I had ben told that the steam isn't all that good now as it is a "wet" air and you need a dry cold air to help it.

Chloe had bronchiolitis, for that we were told heaps of steamy bathrooms, we had the cot tilted up at the head end, vicks on feet, we had one of those plug in vaporisers from the chemist putting eucalyptus type stuff into the air under her cot, she slept in our room so I could hear when she was wheezy and I could take her into the bathroom.

Other than that, pamol is all we used. It's hard though

My brother used to get croup bad when he was little and i remember him sitting with his head over a bowel of hot water with a towel over his head. I think it was just hot water....
and she put vicks on his chest and back aswell.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! We didnt have too bad a night, he did a good 5 hour stint then was a bit restless after that.  I took him to the Drs yesterday morning as his cough sounded worse, and she could hear straight away that it was croup as it wasnt on his chest. pamol as he was very hot and feverish and the vicks and karvol and plan on getting out in the fresh air today, popping him upright in the ergo and going for a big walk to see if that helps!!

Vapourisers are great but the pharmacy here said if you have a crock pot, fill that up with water and a bit of eucualyptus and leave that running in their room.
