We bought Michaela a Thomas compatible wooden train set off trade me.  I paid $60 for a 65 piece set and also bought some extra curved track, extra straight track, some extra switchers plus I went to Toy World and bought two engines (Thomas with lights and sound and Rosie).

She's never seen the show but she does like trains and the train set has been such a huge hit!  She used to walk into the lounge and switch on the TV, now she walks into the lounge and goes straight to her train set.

DH is constantly setting up new track designs and I've had a play too.

I thoroughly recommend getting a wooden train set for your littlie, it's great for extended family too - when my nephews were younger we'd always buy them engines for their birthday and Christmas presents (so easy).

We want to get a table too.  We'll probably go for a non-branded one again (I think you can get them from pipsqueeks and trademe and probably heaps of other places).

Any chance of a photo? Anything that would stop Elle wanting to watch tv everytime she is in the lounge is well worth considering!!

Janine there are heaps of sellers on trademe that do track extensions and you can buy them as packs or buy certain pieces (i.e. 6 straight track etc) and of course there's always the convenience of popping down to toyworld for the Thomas branded ones but they're a bit more expensive.

There's a guy in Masterton (who sells through trademe) that makes track with seperate joiners which was great for my nephews but Michaela's still at the stage where she shoves things in her mouth so she can laugh at us while we freak out trying to get her to spit it out so we chose not to get those ones for her.

Fiona, I'll take a pic tonight and post it for you.  I'll see if I can find the seller I bought the set from too and post a link.

The seller I got the train set from has the (IMO very clever) user name Christmas2008 plus I got other track from toyworld and a couple of other sellers.

Pipsqueeks have a brand new train table for $80 so we may buy that for Michaela's set.

Here's a couple of pics.

made them up. got a big sheet of board, then measured some "rims" and some thick legs. nails and screwed it all together. Bit wobbly, but does the trick and hasn't broken yet!
