I thought it was if you were registered with that doctor and they were looking after you through out the pregancy? I could be wrong. (quite honestly I'm clueless about all this and used to think I had to pay doctors fees full stop! I don't get charged but my doctor is also my LMC. I only get charged script fees for my asthma or if I see her for a non preggy problem.

I think Drs fees are only free until 16 weeks or so, after that you should be signed up with a LMC.

I think if your midwife is your LMC then the doc can still charge.  Not 100% sure though, but I'll be finding out soon!

I went to my new Dr for the first time to confirm my pregnancy when I was 4 weeks preg, and it was free.I registrered with him that day. Im sure he said that it would be free to see him for pregnancy related problems throughout pregnancy, but I would have to pay if I went for other things.
$55 is heaps anyway. You need to move to a small town! - ours is only $20 if you are registered or $40 if not(thats without Community servives card.

Oh I just text my Mum who works for a GP in Auckland. She said if your GP is not your LMC then they only get funding from the government if they see you for your first appt
(before you register with an LMC), or for miscarrige or another emergency. So they will charge you any other time.

My doc is $55 as well...no Community Services Card *sigh*. We make too much money. I'm hoping I'm elegible for a high user card though.

But my doc wasnt my LMC and my visits were still free. So must be up to their discretion. I think you can also have duel care.

But that does make sense Roksana... if your doctor was your LMC then your visits would have been free. If your LMC is a midwife then you would be charged.
It may also be up to thier descretion. Still I wish the doctors this side of the bridge were that cheap! *sigh*
