About Gabrielle - only read if you are interested :)

I posted this on my other thread but...

Good news! We had a follow up appt today and it is a consenus...Elle is a perfectly normal, healthy 2 year old! Not even a hint of aspergers or autism or any developmental issue what so ever! YAY! She had a few mild signs of them before but they are 100% gone now. She has just shown up as normal to advanced on all levels and is particularly strong in areas that spectrum kids usually struggle with (not a mummy brag just good news!). Her strengths are communication, empathy, imaginary play and reciprocal play with others.

She was a very odd baby but what ever it was is now gone. Gradually, bit by bit, all her sensitivities etc have disappeared and now there is nothing unusual about her at all except her sleep. She does have an unexplained sleep disorder but all other tests and assessments and observations have showed she is simply a bright and normal kid who is very social. The sleep thing must just be an isolated issue - some kind of body clock malfuction etc but they are sure it is not related to a bigger problem!

YAY! The docs have all been charmed by her and have commented on how bright, friendly and talkative she is, esp with strangers.   Some who have seen her since she was a baby are amazed and how much she has changed.

We have a medication for her sleep - melatonin so fingers crossed it will work.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us on our journey, I thought you'd like to hear of the positive outcome :)

TBH - I'm not suprised. Gabrielle has slowly but surely come into her own and really is a normal (strong willed - make that very strong willed) kid. In the waiting room today she was have good conversations with each of the other patients and managed to charm the entire room :)

Thats fantastic news Fiona

I'm sure that is a great relief for you. Although, it was my understanding that age two is too young to diagnose with great certainty any of the ASD's, thats fantastic that they were able to do so in Elle's case

I'm sure it isn't 100% but if she has no signs of it at all now, then it is a very good sign :)

YAY! That's great news

I take melatonin every time I fly overseas - it's GREAT for combating jet-lag as it re-set the bidy clock nicely

I look forward to hearing any more progress!

And as for your comments about not having a mummy brag - you're entitled to it

I still think you need to keep trying to get to the bottom of the sleep thing....

Im with joshie rocks tho - 2 is too young to diagnose a lot of things...I see a lot of underdiagnoses and a lot of unknowns that dont come out until school or just prior....maybe you should also talk to the likes of the RTLB units etc and see if they can suggest anything as they see kids who come from histories like Gabrielles.

BTW who did the appt today a GP or a specialist? I hadnt realised from your other thread that you were seeing anyone....

Yay that is really good, hopefully it will help you as well with the sleep.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

That is awesome news. My son was diagnosed with ASD at 22 months (now 5.5 years) although he doesn't do half the things he will always have those traits they do get better but don't fully disappeared.

Bombshell - as far as the sleep expert was concerned, some people just have sleep issues that are not related to other things. It is very very common.

My mother is an RTLB and has never thought Elle has a disorder.
