I have two cats one of which I know will try to get in the cot as she is a cuddle monster.
Obviously I will be careful in checking the cot and keeping the cats out but does anyone know of any thing you can buy that perhaps secures over the cot or can stop a cat getting in? I was going to get a mosquito net anyway but am not sure that this will stop my determined kitty. Haven't seen anything in the shops. I could try securing the nets at the bottom of the cot but I can just see my cat heading straight for the flowy fabric like it's a toy. (she eats net curtains for breakfast).

i dont have cats and never have while pregnant with any of my kids or when any of them were born but just from reading on here ive heard if you put the cot up before bubs is born and fill it with balloons then when the cat jumps in it pops the balloons and gives them a fright hopefully after a few times of that happening your lil cat wont want to do that anymore other than that keep the bedroom door shut  sorry thats about as much help i can be on this subject

There was a discussion about this somewhere, but not too sure of what the actual topic was lol
But someone suggested covering the basiness (or the bed part of the cot) with tinfoil before your baby is born. Apparently this will put the cat off ever getting back in there again once they have a encounter with it.
I've always had cats, but never had a problem with them while I've had babies. I do remember once my cat got into the basinett once before baby was born but I just took her out and she never got back in again.

That's a great idea! Might have to look at doing that. DH is in East Timor and wanted me to wait to put the cot up so this is a perfect excuse to get on and finish the babies room :)

Aww doesnt he want to put it up together...I always found that a great thing to do together before bubs is born.
My cats manage to get around balloon....so if your kitty jumps it, they could just end up moving out of his way and not popping.
Closing the door is always another option. Are you buying a monitor so you will hear when baby wakes?

My vet suggested tinfoil to stop the cat scratching the wall paper (I have a naughty cat you may have noticed). She tore the foil off and destroyed it in about 3 seconds flat then looked at me for more. She's a strange cat.
Family members think I should be more worried about my German Shepherd but she's a teddy bear and we're working with a trainer to help prepare her for bubs. She loves kids anyway. Especially the ones who are sticky or carrying around a ham sandwhich.

Yep. got the monitor and will definintley be keeping the door closed just to be on the safe side.
DH wants me to wait as I think he sees putting the cot up as a daddy thing which is sweet  I'm just really impatient cause he's not home till sometime in Nov.

hmmmm you do have a naughty kitty. I think in the end you'll have to have the door shut or kitty outside. Or maybe is you catch him in it, sneak up and spray som water at him from a water bottle.

We had tin foil, then balloons on top and the cat still got in. But we found once baby was here, the cat didn't want a bar of this new creature that had invaded his home and interrupted his sleep 
We've caught him in the cot with Jack a few times since Jack's been older but always at the end of the cot. We take him out but I'm not worried about it now as Jack's old enough to fend for himself, but a newborn I would be keeping an eye on.
Go to the $2 shop and invest in a small water gun. Spray the cat each time it does something naughty, they soon learn! (hehe we're mean owners lol)

I think the water pistol is also a good idea. She is naughty but I think it's more because she is a people cat and doesn't like not being in the middle of everything. My other cat just sits on the bench and gives people the evils.
Off to finish painting butterflies........ My saturdays used to be brunch and and afternoon at a garden bar with a few of the girls at our weekly catch up. Sigh.
Bubs has finally gone back to sleep so i'm not being beaten up for at least five minutes. Blimey she's a strong little thing. She even scared the cat off my lap last night by booting her in the head

We have one that will get in Spencers cot at every opportunity, I normally keep his door shut even when he isn't in there just to stop him.
I put the bassinet up before Spencer arrived and would make a point of shooing the cats away from it (we have 4) and they quickly learnt they weren't allowed in it.
I have heard about the balloon trick which sounds like a good idea, or the tin foil as they hate that. The other one i've heard of is to squirt them with water whenever they get too close.
We bought a cat net and it was totally useless, my 7kg cat sat on it and it sagged right to the bottom, he thought it was great, his own little cat hammock to sleep in

another thing cats dont like is cellotape, you could put some around the rim of the cot to see if that would deter it, it works for benches in the kitchen lol

Mum reckons to try mousetraps! Before you all panic, she reckons putting a sheet of newspaper on the bassinet, then some of those gray mousetraps, then another sheet of newspapers. When kitten jumps on it, they snap, but can't catch them cos of the paper. Also, they can't see them and move them like balloons (some cats are too smart). Might be worth a shot?

Dr Harry ( a vet show that used to be on in Australia)tried all of these except the mouse traps because there was a chance they could still get parts of the cat. What he finally suggested for this young family was tp put a screen door on the baby's room, but the cat would wait for someone to open it and just get in, then the finally came up with the idea of putting the screen ontop of the cot itself. This cat was such a mother hen it would sleep ontop of the screen keeping a constant eye on the baby.
I also worry about my cat, he's such a cuddly bunny and loves to curl up in bed with us.

I have two cats, one I wont have a problem with because she is 14 yrs and just cant jump up like she use to, my younger cat she loves getting into everything, but I have had the cot and bassinet up for a few months now, and she hasn't attempted to get into them.
Lets just hope that lasts when the beds are all made up and look snuggly.
