We have to sell our rental house and this house and move into a rental *cry*
Just found out yesterday that our tenants have missed many many many weeks of rent and the overdue amount on the mortgage for that house is going to collections! The tenants were good tho, and are getting a personal loan (and have shown us proof) to cover the amount in arears and the fees for the mortgage which is great, but now we're making a massive loss on the rental and it has to go. Not only that but we found out from the accountant yesterday that the money were were claiming on the house in auckland before we moved has to be paid back - so now we owe the IRD 6 thousand dollars >.< our old accountant was supposed to tell us that (was in the fineprint apparently) and the new one broke the news to us yesterday. We cant afford to pay that back - they wont let us do a time payment either.
I'm so upset, I dont want to move to a stupid rental - we have 3 dogs and 2 cats and i refuse to get rid of any of them. Sigh.

did you have any insurance on the rental that covers defaulting payments?  I know we have special "landlords" insurance and I think it covers things like that.

I can't believe your accountant didn't tell you that had to be paid back! We claim depreciation and even though we had looked into everything ourselves our accountant still went through all this with us to ensure we knew what we could and couldn't claim and what would have to be paid back.

That does really suck. I hope you do have the rental insurance - our property manager made us get it for our house in Palmy.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Man that sucks!! Good that the tenants are getting a loan out to pay the arrears and costs, but they should never have put you in that position in the first place!!. And stupid accountant!!, I'm sure IRD allow for a payment plan...guess it depends on who you talk to ?. Fingers crossed it all gets sorted out and you get to keep at least one of your homes.
