Topic: OPK: Internet cheapies & reliability Posted: 01 October 2008 at 2:29pm |
Hey girls,
This is my first cycle using OPK bought online. They're like strips of tiny sticks made of hard cardboard (not like a HPT stick)
The instructions says that the result line must be equal or darker than the control line for it to be BFP.
On CD 14, my OPK had no line, then on CD15, it shows a clear line, but not as dark as the control line. I'm pretty sure I ovulated though, coz I experienced cramps on my left ovary.
What do you think? Any of you use the same kind? What is your experience?

You may have ovulated after you used the OPK the first time which could result in a lighter result. However I find that I get a fade in line for a day or two before I get the darker line and then I get a few days of fade out as well. I only use the internet cheppies.

Hmm.. I thought so too - but the OPK which showed a lighter line was done a couple of hours before the ovulation cramps though so I thought I ovulated a few hours after the test was done?
Oh well all too confusing!!!

Try it again tomorrow and see if you get a darker or lighter line (or no line). I often find I get the whole fade in fade out thing a day either side so if it's not darker but the days either side are lighter I 'assume' that's a +. Not sure if it's correct but it usually matches up with a higher temp the next day or the day after.
I think I read somewhere you might have caught it after the surge when it's on the way down? So maybe next month try testing earlier in the day? Easier said than done though if you work, could be difficult.

Hi Spicy Chick,
"Ovulation Pain" can come before, during or after ovulation. There are many things that can cause pain you feel each month. With that in mind, it is not accurate to assume you have ovulated because you had pain!
With my last cycle I had ovulation pain on CD14 but did not actually ovulate until about CD20! I also used the internet cheapies (from save on tests) and like tracey got a fade in line for a few days. My positive test looked as dark as the control line but the edge of the test line was much darker.
Like a HPT if you have diluted urine (ie had a drink prior to testing) that can effect the quality of the test. I used to try and hold on for as long a possible so that my pee was concentrated! Aahh the things we gals do to get pg!!!!
Like Chelle said, test again tomorrow and see what the results look like.
Good luck, hope you get pg soon!

Thanks Melnel,
I think you're right - I kept thinking I've either ovulated earlier or maybe have not and then FF decided to show I've ovulated yay! So I guess the line was a + after all, maybe taken too late in the day, and I've missed the surge.
Whoa hope this is the magical month
