Topic: News item about cotdeath Posted: 07 October 2008 at 7:20pm |
I just saw an article on the news, apparently they have done research in America, and they found that having a fan on in babies room , reduces the risk of cotdeath by 72 %, but i didnt hear the rest of the report (minor tap overflowing incident )
But thought some of you mums with little bubbas might find that interesting

I was wondering if HRV and the likes that curculate the air through out the room (HRV have a vent in every room so curculate more)

I didn't see it, but my guess is that it would "wake" baby if they stopped breathing?
Like if you blow on a baby it makes them startle...
Interesting though - might look it up.

I saw it. They said it was because the fan was circulating the air so less chance of the baby breathing back in the air that it had just breathed out ( I think). But you would think the fan would need to be pointed directly at the baby for it to be effective and who wants cold air blowing on a baby??

it was more about circulating the air in the room and not necessarily directly on the baby...

I caught the end of it. Interesting theory. I did have a fan on in the gremlins room for much of the time they were in the "at risk" period (2-8 mths) coz it was summer and hot.

ah , i knew one of you would have seen the whole thing , that whole " not breathing back in air that they had just breathed out " sounds familiar, i heard them say something along those lines on the news
My strange child will not sleep without her fan blowing directly on her face .
