Topic: Waitakere Hospital Posted: 20 October 2008 at 7:09am |
Just have to say, after spending most of yesterday afternoon/evening here, that I was soooooo impressed with them!! The staff were all amazing, and I got seen to really quickly - pretty much straight away
Baby is fine - I have gastroenteritis Spent a few hours on a drip because I was really dehydrated. The nurses were lovely and so was the doctor I saw [:)
 to them!!!

All my experiences with Waitak Hosp have been really positive - including having Zach there.
Hope your gastro is better now.

I had gastro, or something similar around the same time in pregnancy. Was knocked out and basically slept and didn't eat for two weeks...lost a hell of a lot of weight and was soo paranoid about bubby -they're tougher than we give 'em credit for eh!
Glad to hear you had good care there - is that where you're planning on birthing?

I hope you're on the road to recovery now funlvn :)]. We've all had it here over the weekend & it is not one bit of fun (let alone being pregnant as well).
That's great you found Waitak Hosp so good. It's nice to hear positive stories instead of the more common negative ones about our hospitals.

I had both of my girls at Waitakere and thought the staff were pretty great too. The maternity wards themselves are pretty average and everything, but really I don't have any complaints. Sure, I left after one night this time around, but it's not their fault that so many women are having babies right now which means having 3 women and their babies to a room.

Thanks for your thoughts and I feel for those of you who have had this too. They did say last night that over the last couple of days they'd had two other women with this in early pregnancy. Maybe its quite common?
Steph - Poor you! I haven't thought about where I'm birthing yet lol. I guess it will be either there or North Shore.
It is so good to hear of other positive experiences too! That's what I was thinking Sally - we usually only hear the negative stuff.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was common, maybe due to poor immunity at the start of pregnancy? ...who knows
Main thing is that you get better
Are you able to birth at birthcare? Or at least qualify to go and stay there afterwards? ...I highly recommend it

There is no Birthcare this side of the bridge Well not one that I can find, so if you want to go to the one in town you have to pay... at least thats what my research has uncovered. Would love to know if I am wrong on that!

Melnel I'm from South Auckland (Papakura) and was meant to birth at Middlemore, i simply changed districts (from counties health board to Auckland City) and then I managed to stay the 3 days free at Birthcare after birthing at Auck Hospital ....so you might just be able to do the same??? Depends on mw's of course ...I went with Greenlane Domino Midwives which meant that on the day I just birthed with whoever was on shift - I landed myself with a lovely MW and a Dr, and Registrar all delivering my little man (ventouse, complicated birth). The staff at Auck hosp were fantastic and my stay at Birthcare was so good I didn't want to leave!
