I am currently taking Motilium to help my milk supply and have been on this for 8 weeks now. it has really helped and DD is gaining weight at a consistent rate now

I am starting to exercise more now and really don't want to compromise my milk - my question is (for anyone who has been on domperidone tabs for milk supply) can I continue being on this medication for an extended time?

How long are you wanting to continue? I was told that the minute you start 'weaning" yourself off it that your milk supply does reduce and it would be up to you and baby to increase the supply.

I'd check with your GP about how long is acceptable to be on it.

We are at such a good stage now with milk supply that I really don't want to risk coming off it! I would like to breast feed for a year if I can. Might make an appointment to go see my GP
Thanks ladies

I have been on it twice - for 6 months with Gina and for 7 months with Emma. I took 5 tabs a day. From what I understand, it's OK to be on it for an extended period - in fact the increase in milk supply is a side effect of the drug - it's prescribed for some sort of digestion/tummy problems

Yep it's an anti nausea drug used in long term treatment, it speeds up the motility of the gut which is why you feel hungry all the time, that and lactation of course

I am hungry a lot of the time, but thought it was mainly due to b/feeding and I'm doing weight watchers! As I've had touble with my milk supply I am making sure I eat 3 meals a day, and 2 healthy snacks. I have been walking, but we are buying a cross trainer so I don't want the extra exercise to compromise my milk supply. Will get another script and stay on as long as the GP says its ok!
Thanks everyone
