was just reading this and came across this line...

Is there any etiquette I need to be aware of?

Make sure you read the Forum Guidelines. Some quirks:

It is better 'manners' to edit your original post rather than 'clutter' a thread by serial posting (although that depends on the thread - it's generally ok to serial post in the chattier threads such as the monthly ones, the daily catchup, and some of the TTC threads).

and i dont agree with that at all. tis better to repost if you have a change of mind or new info, IMO.

no offence to weegee but i wonder if it perhaps would have been better for the FAQ to be compiled by admin, as i also some some other inaccuracies, eg there is a character count on the signature section already.

just my thoughts....

Totally agree with this. I have seen posts where someone has made a comment, then a few people have replied as in a discussion about said comment and next thing the comment has been changed or infomation being taken out. People that have commented look like they are replying to unasked questions or comments.

I agree.
If you add information or change fundamental things about the post, it can be completely missed if people have already read the OP in its original form and just skip to the newest comments.
JMO but serial posting has never bothered me anyway, regardless of the type of thread.

NB - Totally not having a go at you Weegee, GW for writing that all up!

I would have thought 'good manners' would be not to edit your post if it's not the last post in the thread?

At least to me it is anyway

And yes good work Weegee for writing it all up

Wow, I hardly ever edit my post.  Only do it if as soon as I post it I read something that is glaringly embarrassingly spelt wrong, or it just reads wrong and might be offensive.  Then I change it straight away.  Otherwise, I never think of it.

lol me either, I'm a chronic serial poster But that was just included as a response to someone else's suggestion. I didn't word it properly, I guess I meant it's only 'better' to edit to correct yourself rather than post again straight away. I agree with Kels and Tishy - was just trying to make it a collaborative exercise!

(And now Emma needs to edit it anyway cos I can't)

Another forum I belong to actually has a time limit on editing posts...something like 10 minutes... So you have time to fix something you accidentally posted wrong, but you can't go back and delete or change a post just because others have made negative comments about what you posted. I personally like this idea. Especially since sometimes I miss the bitchfights and hate when people delete what they said so you have no idea what the argument was about.

Actually I suggested Weegee add that.

It wasn't for changing items in a post - it's for when you want to add stuff to the end of it and you just post multiple times after yourself. The edit button is there for a reason

ETA: Like now when I want to add that a prime example is testing a ticker.

Did you know that you can test your ticker using the Signature Preview button? Not aimed at anyone particular, just a random observation.

I only ever edit posts if my spelling/grammar bites, otherwise I post a new post.

I personally don't think it matters whether you edit or post again... but then I don't get bothered by the small things

Yeah I think it's good to edit your post if it's the last one in the topic, if no-one has replied after you (and you just think of something else you forgot to 'say').

But if there's been replies after your post and you want to add something, then it's best to post again - cos yeah otherwise what you've added/deleted gets confusing...

I think that's what Bobbie was saying in the first place, just needed to be worded slightly differently that's all

Which if I didn't edit every time I remember something I wanted to write but just forgot to put in, it could get quite long!

And it could be potentially annoying

And now I've been done for spamming!

But I think what that suggestion is meant to mean, rather than during a discussion when people have replied after you...

Edited so it would make sense...
