That was the most horrific case. I don't belive in capital punishment but boy I hope they get a really long sentence. How could anybody do what they did? The excuse from the lawyers "what they did was stupid but didn't have criminal intent ..." .

I am so pleased the verdict went this way i am starting to think Dh ways that some people should never be allowed to breed. maybe they should have to pass a test or something.

I was stoked as well. But a bit unsure - how did Lisa Kuka get TWO counts of manslaughter? anyone understand? or have read more than me.

1 count was for failing to provide the necessities of life and ensure her daughter was being properly looked after
and the other was for failing to take her to hospital (provide medical attention) when she realised she was really ill which resulted in her death.

people who can do that to a child / anyone/any living thing dont deserve to live along side other human beings. They should be locked up and tortured.
Jail is too good for those scumbags.

I imagine if the verdict had been anything but guilty, there would have been a huge public outcry .
I am glad the trial is over , and I am thrilled with the result ,and once the sentencing is over , then hopefully Nia can rest in peace knowing justice has been done for her at last .

I'm pleased with the verdict but a little apprehensive about the sentences.
I'm sure regardless of what sentence they receive, they'll be punished by those inside but in my book, it still won't be enough.
Life should mean Life.
I'm normally pretty foul mouthed but I can't find a word to describe these animals.

Im glad too that its over and hope they get what they deserve.
On a side note, read this article today about a high speed car crash and at the end was this:
"Flynn is buried alongside his daughter, Tyla-Maree, who was scalded to death in Tokoroa last year.
The 22-month-old girl lived with her mother and stepfather, Rikki Hotham.
Hotham was due to stand trial in February after being charged with her murder, but he was killed in a car crash last month."
Why, of why, was Hotham charged with murder yet still allowed out of custody, resulting in him being in a crash! It was proberly suicide - an easy way out. Or hopefully the family got an eye for an eye.
Grr,, I hope there is hell after death for people who do things like this

Yep, some people are beyond scum. I was listening to talkback on the way home and there's already talk about what might await the killers in prison - even prisoners have standards and child abusers are the lowest of the low and have an appropriately hard time in jail. So they bloody should.

This is taken from this article today on the brothers charged with the murder of Nia..
"They will definitely be in protection.
"Protection usually means solitary confinement, and a lot of it. They could possibly be locked up for 23 hours a day."
I think they deserve to suffer!

I think solitary for 23 hours a day would be worse than physical punishment. Eventually, the beatings would stop - but to be alone for.......
Actually, scratch that - they are already antisocial scum so solitary would be fine for them - plus they get to watch TV and play playstation.
Why is prison such a comfortable place to be?
- Minimum heat standards
- Priviledges, conveniences
- 3 healthy meals per day
- Meeting up with other crims to learn new and interesting things
- Free (I think) tertiary education
- Jobs and money
- Cellphones
- Drugs
Prison should not just be about withdrawing someone from society. It should be about withdrawing society (and everything associated with it) from the criminal. When you do a crime, you should lose your rights.
Hah... in a perfect world maybe.
