Topic: Sad movies ..... Posted: 27 November 2008 at 9:31pm |
I have decided,I am a big sook, and I cant blame it on pregnancy , cos ive always been this way .
Im a sucker for sad movies , or even movies that arent particulary sad, but may be "moving " at some point .
Heres a list of my top sad/moving movies , and the scenes im reaching for the tissues with...
Dumbo -when his mum is locked up and shes rocking him back and forth, and Baby Mine is playing .
Beaches -well, when she dies , obviously, but also before she dies when CC says " i remember every little thing about you , and my memory is long, my memory is very long " and Hilary (the dying one) whispers out of her ear range "im counting on it" ...and when shes dead and her daughter has to leave her house..tho that could also be cos I really liked the house ....
Ghost -the end ,awww.
Isnt she lovely -when she says goodbye to her kids (how ? how can you do that...to go with Sean Penn?really ? stick with John Travolta )
The lion King-when Mufasa dies, duh, but also..when Scar dies ....
Black Beauty - when that beautiful horse is reunited with Joe and you know everything is going to be ok
Wit-basically most of the way through it
Coyote Ugly -when her father is talking about how much he loved her mother ,and gets a bit choked up
City of Angels -when she dies , of course
Love Actually-when the brilliant Emma Thompson's character realises her husband may be having an affair, and she goes into her room and cries , and then does that wave hands infront of face to dry tears so kids dont see , thing .
When Liam Neesons character says to his stepson "you should tell her, tell her you love her ...i should have told your mother everyday , because she was perfect everyday "
Sixth Sense -when he and his mum are in the car and he asks what she asked her mum that got the reply "everyday " and she said she asked her mum "do I make you proud"
Stepmom-my God , this movie, i cry from start to finish,so many parts, but especially, the restaurant scene (bear with me ) when Julia Roberts says
"look down the road , to her wedding, im fixing her veil, fluffing her dress , and telling her no woman , has ever looked this beautiful...and my fear is,she'll be thinking "i wish my mum was here"
and Susan Sarandon (Jackies) replies "and my fear is , ...she wont"
and of course when Jackie says goodbye to her son , and he tells her with such childhood innocence "noone loves you like I do "and when she tells her daughter that noone dies as long as you take them with you , ...and then she says, you have made my life,SO wonderful...take that with you too"
and of course the look on Julia's face when Susan says "lets get a picture of the whole family ....isabel?"
LOVE IT .
so thats mine ,the movie ones anyway ...if im going to mention the tv things, like Cold Case, you'll be reading all night .
What are some of your favourite weepy movies or moments?
and feel free to elaborate, as I did

Oh Casper ...yes, that part is sweet.
The notebook, I didnt cry when they died, i cried when she remembered, then didnt, and the look on the older Noah's face, just such despair and anguish .
Ditto that part in the Titanic, also when the mum is reading to her children to put them to sleep tho she must have been terrified , and this line "for gods sake there are women and children down here, let us out so they can have a chance !"
Ditto A.I
I just thought of a random one, Iron Giant, or Iron Robot-an animated one
I am Sam , cried in that too (love Sean Penn )
sigh, more movies that make me cry ....
I just watched Love Actually, because today its 4 weeks til christmas ,and thats my little tradition

I cried reading the descriptions of the sad parts you just described!
I never used to cry at stuff then as soon as I got pregnant with Charlotte I have cried at anything and everything.
My girl- when Vada runs up to the coffin and is crying because Thomas J hasn't got his glasses on
Steel Magnolias, Armageddon, Pay it Forward, Green Mile- all ones guaranteed to have me bawling.

I used to be OK until I got pregnant with Amy and it has got worse since I had Sophie!
The first time was about a week before Amy was born - we watched Dances with Wolves and when the nasty army men kill the wolf and the horse, well I just blubbed. DH glance over to see if I was OK and I was streaming .
Now I cry at just about anything, even telling a sad story to someone else!

Oh and I will NEVER watch Green Mile .. because it sounds too heart breaking.

The first movie I ever cried in was "Legends of the Fall". LOVE that movie, even though it's really sad! Brad is just devine in it!
I've never watched The Notebook from start to finish, but really should one day, it's a great movie from the bits I've seen.
Edited: I just remembered actually, the first movie I really cried in when I was little, maybe 10? Was Benji. But I covered it over by saying I was feeling sick cos I was too embarressed to tell my mum I was crying over the dog with no home!

My all time favourite movie is 10 Things I hate about you... I've watched soooooo many times.
This is my teary part:
I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair.
I hate the way you drive my car;
I hate it when you stare.
I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind.
I hate you so much it makes me sick.
It even makes me rhyme.
I hate it -- I hate the way you're always right;
I hate it when you lie.
I hate it when you make me laugh; even worse when you make me cry.
I hate it when you're not around and the fact that you didn't call.
But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you -- not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.
Ohhh and the other movie that makes my cry every time is Moulin Rouge. When Santine is on stage and starts singing "come what may" to Ewan Mcgregors character as he's about to walk out on the performance OMG that gets me everytime.

Random, i just watched Ten Things I hate About You for the millionth time yesterday .
I always cry at that part too...the minute she starts crying , forget it , im a lost cause.
Shawshank Redemption (which i perfer to Green Mile btw) i cry when the old man is released and he looks so alone and scared
Green Mile-I cry when John Coffey is killed and the guards are finding it so hard, and the parents of the little girls that got killed are saying "fry him twice" and I think at the end of the day , they have it the worst, they are not to know what really happened , and no matter what ,their little girls were still taken from them in the most awful way .
North Country -when her dad finally stands up for her
Flight Plan -when she comes out of the plane and they say , whats that shes carrying and the pilot says "her....daughter" (tho thats more of an IN YOUR FACE ! cry )
Legends of the Fall, -when Samuel dies , (btw , did you know Samuel, the younger brother is played by Elliot from ET?)
ET- when he says good bye to them
Finding Nemo-when they get reunitied
Toy Story 2-when Jessie sings "when she loved me "
also My Girl -especially at his funeral, but also when she tells her dad " its not a bad thing, to be like you " oh , and when Shelly tells him "stop ignoring the living, especially not your little girl "
Gosh , I DO cry a lot !
not a movie but a tv programme, Cold Case, one of the first episodes and it was called Fly Away . My gosh , when they start playing the Heaven Candlelight mix, i lost it, couldnt stop thinking of that one for days .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4GfbZnnx1c
oh god, i just watched it again ,now im bawling like a baby ....
