For calling last night to check up on me with the big fire burning just across the road from my home!

We lost power for over two hours - luckily I'd just finished cooking Joshua's dinner when it went out!

And thank goodness there was an easterly wind last night which blew all the huge amounts of black smoke over the harbour instead of right into us.

Was quite amazing to watch - we had the perfect view from our balcony. But really sad for Mitre 10.

Gosh I saw that on Campbell, it was huge!
Glad you weren't affected too much by it Claire, must've been scary with the explosions so close!

Oh wow Clare.  I had no idea it was so close to you.  Glad to hear you guys are ok and that you managed to get Josh and nice dinner sorted (what did you do about your dinner though?)

The explosions were pretty loud to begin with, but then kind of sounded a bit like fireworks going off - I guess there were so many gas bottles and cooking ovens that went up all at the same time.

Power came back on at about 7.20pm so made mine after that.

Just meant I had more time to drink a glass of wine

Glad you are ok. We are elevated on the Onehunga side of Hillsborough so had an amazing view of the smoke and some flames. Got some pictures too. Very sad for Mitre 10 - esp at this time of the year and in this economy.
