My wee boy seems to be in a lot of discomfort when trying to poo, it even wakes him out of a sleep sometimes!!!

Am breast feeding him and he does poo daily so I don't think it's constipation.....

Does anyone have any ideas, or a similar problem?

Hey Jo, no antibiotics at birth - he was born at 35.5 weeks, and we were in hospital for 11 days until his suck was established enough, but was pretty healthy for a premie....

Sorry to say, but nice to hear I'm not the only one with this problem!!

I've tried everything, I think its gettin better and he can get rid of his burps by himself really well. it sucks cause he poos mostly at night time and early morning. I find if he's sore he gets so tense which makes things worse, by feeding him he usually gets it out cause he's relaxing.
Re. the antibiotics, because he got given them at birth I think its stuffed up his normal gut flora and his bowels don't work so good. I'm taking probiotics in the hope that it will pass through my breast milk.

Samwise, we had similar with Eimear ( also born at 35weeks). Once I eliminated wheat & dairy from my diet things improved dramatically and no more painful pooing.

I actually think it's wheat that affects her bowel motions and dairy causes reflux ( they both still affect her) these kicked in around 8 weeks for us.

We have this problem with our Thomas too (great choice of name for your baby btw). His poos are normal but he's always been a strainer and it wakes him up! And sounds revolting over the baby monitor / when you're out and about and he needs to let one go.

Mainly just wheat. I did try GF bread a few times but I think the yeast caused issues for her as well
