I can see why the tests are a good idea.

But if you're unsure, just don't drink.
My MW and Plunket nurse both had the rule "make sure you finish your drink at least an hour before you need to feed"

Oh, don't get me wrong! When I said I wasn't going to buy them, it was because I won't be drinking while breastfeeding lol

But on the subject of the one hour thing - I thought it was longer?

That's just what I was told.
But I just don't drink until Hannah's gone to bed - just to be on the safe side

Yup, I also don't have anything to drink until Natalie's in bed for the night, but some advice I was given is that it's actually best to have a drink (if you are going to have one) WHILE breastfeeding, because the feed will be long over before the alcohol makes it's way into the milk. Personally, I'd play it safe and wait! (although i know my Mum drank occasionally during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and I figure I turned out ok)

That's what I was told too.  What I was told is it takes 30 mins for the alcohol to make it into the breastmilk and 3 hrs for 1 unit of alcohol to pass through your system completely.  I was told that by a medical engineer from F&P Healthcare and it makes sense to me.

I tend to agree with all of you when you say if someone's concerned enough to do screen their breastmilk then they're better off not drinking at all (or not breastfeeding if they're someone who drinks enough that they have to be concerned).

For the ladies who do have a drink after baby has gone to bed, it would be interesting to try the test just to see lol

But then again, I don't think I'd trust them....don't know why though...

Hey, my Mum would sit there with a can of bourbon in one hand, baby in the other.
My wee girl is the love and light of my life!
