Spencer didn't sit up until 8.5 months, I saw my gp (2 days before he sat ) and happened to ask about it whilst there and we were referred to a paed but that was because my gp was concerned that my sons eye condition may be affecting his balance.
Anyway normal age to sit is anything before 9 months, if still not sitting then then take him along to your gp for a check up.
We saw the paed twice and was then discharged as they were happy that he was all ok. They said he would have a big spurt and catch up and that is exactly what happened around 13-14 months.

I think they all develop in their own time.
Issy was crawling before seven months and walking at 10 .. but she isnt as talkative as some bubs her age and still babbles.
I just think they all develop differently.

Maya was sitting unsupported at 5 mths and lil miss is pretty much sitting now, the gremlins were gone 8 mths before they could sit. Different babies just develop at different rates. The gremlins were always on the slower side of normal with their milestones - crawled at 10 mths, walked closer to 14 mths - but you'd never know it to see them running and climbing and jumping now!
Lots of tummy time helps strengthen the back and neck muscles and sitting practise is good too, I tend to sit on the floor with bub between my legs or prop them up in a washing basket so they can't topple but still have to use their trunk muscles to hold themselves up.

Rowan sat at 6.5 months but she's not crawling yet. I think there is a huge variance in how they develop - I wouldn't worry quite yet.

Chloe didn't sit until about 8 and a half months, from memory, and she has only just started commando crawling a few weeks ago... whereas our neighbors baby was crawling at 7 months and walking by 10 months. It's just so different for every baby. I wouldn't be worried.

Dont worry about it at all!
I followed a natural movement approach whereas you dont put your baby into any position that they cant put themselves in. So you wait till they can crawl into a sitting position themselves rather than force them to sit when their backs may not be strong enough to do so. Just let your baby develop when he is ready, there is no rush just give him heaps of tummy time! better to learn to crawl than get stuck sitting up and not being able to move!

My girls are over 7 months now and still not sitting I was getting pretty anxious myself. Although Esme keeps trying to pull herself up when shes lying on her back. It looks like shes doing tummy crunchs lol!
They must be close though I reckon they should be sitting in another month..... I hope!

definatly dont stress yet!!
my oldest girl was sitting really young about 4 months from memory, but she just sat! pmsl!! she didnt crawl till after she walked (13 months) she was a bum shuffler.
my second daughter was crawling about 5 months but couldnt sit for AGES like between 10-11 months!! serious!!
they are all different. and each do things on their own time and own way
my 7.5 month old sits briefly but not so interested woukld rather crawl around.

I think we expect far too much (unintentionally) from our babies, dont we? :) Thomas is nearly 7 months old - shows no interest in sitting up by himself or crawling and thats perfectly fine! As everyone else has said, they all develop at their own pace, so dont worry about it!

as others have said babies do things in their own time.
my girl is about the only baby in my antenatal group that is not walking but I'm not worried as she is only 13 months. knowing my luck once she does walking she wil take off .lol
I think average age for sitting up is around 6-10 months

Hi I know it's hard not to start worrying when you see other babies doing things that your baby isn't, but you just have to keep telling yourself that all babies are different and do things in their own time, and your baby will be ready when he's ready.
My DD is a premmie (2 months early) so it makes it even harder when she's behind other babies her age.
At 7.5 months she was able to sit unsupported, but hasn't started showing any interested in crawling and rolling until now (10 months), as she has always hated tummy time but now she loves it. She will launch herself forward onto her tummy from sitting, but doesn't quite crawl forward yet, but goes side to side and backwards. She's also loved being on her feet since 4 months old and loves to stand and tries to pull herself up on furniture etc. Whereas her cousin 7 months has rolled around the house for a couple of months now, and started crawling just recently, yet shows no interest at all in sitting even with support, and hates being on her back and feet. So they all reach different milestones at their own pace and in whatever order they feel comfortable with.

I think normal is 6-9mos, in which case he's perfectly normal!! As for the crawling, two of mine didn't crawl until 10mos (the other was 4.5mos ROFL)

Caden can only sit assisted at the moment mostly, he can sit by himself for a little while but someone always has to be for when he topples over. He is showing no signs really of crawling either, he will just kick his arms and legs around like he is trying to swim lol.
But, he LOVES to stand, he can stand by himself for a few seconds, with our hands right by him to catch him, so i think he will be walking before he crawling. When you try to sit him down he pushes him self up to stand.
All babies are different, so dont worry

Natural movement is the way to go! Don't stress about baby not sitting. Put baby on tummy and give HEAPS of floor time. No bouncers, jolly jumpers or contraptions. Natural movement is allowing the baby to explore, move and learn while on the floor, the best place for baby.
Usually if baby is left to explore, move on the floor they will roll, crawl and then sit and so on.
Assisted sitting is not always the best as baby may not be ready (strength and muscle strength).Plus if you sit baby that's all they wil be able to do and lean forward and get stuck. Get baby checked if not moving or rolling or anything though.
Dont worry
