HELLO ALL...

I am very new to this site and also even any forums!! so hope you and others can read this..as i too need some support desperately!!!!!
LET ME TELL MY STORY... ii am going on 38 years old this year and left it till now for kids etc- scary!!) and my husband and i have been trying to concieve for a while now.. and up till now i have been on clomid and also had an hsg test (as to check my falopians but all is good here) we were then referred to the hamilton Fert associates and to my utmost suprise my husbands sperm has antibodies in it (due to a vascatamy reversal) as we were both in shock! i just lost it and broke down when we recieved the news... we were sent away with ivf info etc and with the pill and bloodtest scripts... that was before Xmas... we are now about to visit them again and start my injections (scary!!) I have not told anyone (except my parents who under my strict instructions not told anyone either) but i am really needing some support from someone who knows what im going thru and can help me overcome my fears every step of the way... Its soooo much to take in.
I am totally scared with lots of aspects of this path we are taking... I will be starting my injections very soon then the egg collection after that sometime
SOME QUESTIONS IF ANYONE CAN ANSWER THESE...
1. does egg collection hurt?? im terrified!! do they sedate you enough in hamilton clinic?
2. How many eggs should they be able to get (im reasonably healthy)
3. Frozen eggs - has anyone had sucessful pregancy from theirs?
4. How many embryos to put in? 1 or 2??
5. Has anyone else had the same infert problem? sperm antibodies? as i seem to be ok? will this mean better chance as my ovaries etc are good?
6. Injections - how many weeks/days total before egg collection can happen? curious as to approx time frame...
7.. Any good sucess stories??
Anyway sorry for rambling on but i have so many questions...
I would like to offer my advise and also my experiences if and when i experience them to help anyone else too...

looking forward to anyones response/advise..

There are a couple of ladies that have been through IVF on here, try searching in the pregnancy thread.

One mum in particular conceived after a vasectomy reversal.

Hiya I'm half asleep, so I'm going to blast out answers to your questions which means I'll probably forget to add loads of info - but if you check out the infertility board, you'll see there have been a raft of us IVFers this year! (or rather, in 2008!)

Now, your questions ...

1. Yes. It does. How much is very individual, but they do give you pain relief and it's very effective, and believe me, when you're in the middle of it, you're thinking about your baby and you really don't care what they do - I found that the pain relief acted almost immediately and they monitor you closely to make sure you are ok. I was dealing with Fertility Plus in Auckland, but I don't see any reason and have never heard of it being any different in the Tron. Fear is a natural thing, especially with something like this, but I promise you - the memory of any pain and discomfort will fracture and fade very, very quickly.

2. That's also very individual - for some people they get loads, for others, they get less. I had 18 eggs retrieved from 30+ follicles, but I know of others who had only 1 or 2, or half a dozen. Unfortunately, the great unknown of it all every step of the way is part of the 'fun' I think the average they try for, and what is pretty normal, is 8-10.

3. We became pregnant first time on a fresh cycle so I can't help with the frozen question - I'm not sure if anyone pregnant on the boards at the moment is pregnant from a frozen cycle.

4. For over35s, my understanding is that they will consider 2. I'm surprised that no one has discussed this with you at all if you are about to start injections! I'd corner someone and get answers!!

5. Lulu did combat with the antibody after vasectomy reversal issue. She's absolutely gorgeous and has a wee girl conceived via ICSI, and I'm sure would be happy to talk to you! Me and my husband had endo and a sperm quality issue.

One thing you have to your advantage is that with ICSI the sperm meets egg rate after EC will be 100% - that's a help! As for whether your chances are better because you're healthy ... I really don't know. I would hope so for your sake!! There are so many variables in IVF - I have endo, so I in theory had a worse chance of becoming pregnant than a woman with no 'bits' issues, but I'm only 29, so that increased my chances of success over someone older than me. Does that make sense? It's a bit of a see-saw! Just concentrate on the fact that if you weren't a good risk for IVF, they wouldn't be putting you through the cycle! I think the statistical chance of pregnancy is around 30%.

6. Argh. Already I forget ... My cycle started with day 1, then I think it was around 3 weeks before I started Buserelin (I think! As I said - it's incredible how quickly the memory fades!) ... then I think a couple of weeks of Buserelin usually before starting Puregon (or Gonal F) and then I think it's a couple of weeks of that ... so from memory I think it's about 4 weeks of injections (I was about 6 because I failed to down regulate ... but I'm special ).

7. There are lots hanging around here at the moment! There's a thread in the pregnancy section - babies due after IVF, and there are about 8 with 1 having been born just before xmas to mellybelly.

Thanks Ginger for your detailed response...I am really needing some support from others who have or are going thru the same thing... This was definitely no expected - and we got quite a shock when we found out my husband had sperm antibodies (after vas reversal) as we thought all was ok... so hence trying for about 18 months with no luck - and i thought it must be me!! Now we know our only option is IVF - thank goodness we have this option huh!!! Any other advise or experiences from you or anyone else greatly appreciated!
