When Jake was born, the family went crazy with giving him things. He has blocks galore, so many books they can't fit on the book shelf, beautiful plastic animals, tape recorders, dvds, CDS, you name it, he has it. Fo his birthday we are giving him a Tri_ang tricyle (cheapest from winkalotts if anyone is inmterested). For xmas we will probably get him the Leapfrog system.
My question is...what about Taine? Now, he can use his brothers toys, so I don'[t feel we need to get him blocks and animals and stuff. Books he can have, but they are jutslittle, what about his big present? we will get him a Tri-Ang rider thing but it's only $29.95. any ideas what to get child number two, when child number one already has nearly every toy imaginable? and I mean big presents - main prsents, rather than little things that I have loads of ideas for.

we found the same and still do - went and got stuff at the toy sales so all our xmas shopping is done now already thank god. But for paris it was easy, she likes polly pocket barbie and all baby doll stuff. but ayja.. she has a baby doll of her own and alot of things we have been given 2 of anyway like dolls buggies. but stuff like blocks etc she didn't need, last xmas we got her stuff that we never got paris, things like the stand up ball blast, and other stuff that built on to what paris had.. eg paris had the peek a blocks girrafe and elephant so we got a shape sorter of the same range so Ayja could use them all together. but otherwise we have started to buy combined stuff. last year was a cubby house - which ayja was too little for at the time really, but within a month or so she was in and out as she started crawling and she now loves spending time in there. This year it is a slide since we now have a yard, and again ayja will be a bit little but will soon grow into it.

so i am unsure what to recommend specifically, esp as i don't have boys and girls have so many more things that they could have. build on to sets you already have, or get something they can use together to encourage sharing and playing together. but other than that i do not know. good luck.

I quite like the idea of big gifts they can use together.
But then I don't have two. Hrmmmm... no ideas other than to say that Janine and Lu's were quite cool.

I dont have two either but on the weekend I bought Zaara a learning house from KMart (99.95). It is 6 - 36 months and looks like heaps of fun. This is for Zaara's birthday in 3.5 months. I also bought a pool with slides, fountains etc for (89.95) for her for Xmas.

All these from KMart.....big gift and I think some thing the next one can use too......Kmart had so many things and some really big toys....so you have loads of options.

Oh oh I also bought a tricycle for Zaara from The Warehouse was 59.95 but on special for 29.95 (for her birthday!!

Yeah we got the catalogue the night before the sale started and i picked out what we wanted and sent mike off to get it at midnight when it started - was crazy in palmy, mike had to run to get a trolley, then he got all the stuff we wanted, and got to the layby line - which where he started was by the garden dept (palmy ladies will know how LONG that is) so he thought bugger this, and went through the checkout and put it on the VISA!! (argh debt, but we'll just pay that off instead i spose).. his mates wife was 3 people in front of him in the layby line... aparently she got home around 3am. So now we have all the xmas pressies in our wardrobe... and under our bed. oh well, all done.

We are going to have the same problem. Harry is 3 and Alex 7 months. For this Christmas we'll get away with giving him clothes and a few toys but as he gets older that will be a problem. For Harry we got a lot of 'starter' sets. Wooden Thomas, Plan City, Lego that we can add to for birthdays and Christmas. I don't see it a problem getting Harry the Fire Engine lego set and Alex the police set and they can share the other lego. We'll get Alex the Battery operated Thomas set so they each have something different.   Mum has started getting Kids bonus bonds instead of presents because the grandkids had so much toys and because she has started with them so young they think nothing of it. I really want to avoid piles of toys esp as some of them will never be used!

I found what I want to get Taine. It's the fisher price bandstand. it has a little keyboard and a dance mat! Jake would love it, but I think Taine would too! We might give him that for xmas. Only problme is finding it. I saw it for $100...but can't remember where. I've seen it for $80 but on trademe, and second hand. i think thats too much.

yep we got the little dolls house too - i mean Paris has her owndifferent one but Ayja is REALLLLLY into it at the mo and there are huge fights cos Ayja just likes to sit right in front of it and hog it.. hopefully we will hold out till xmas.. cos the girls just scrap over paris's one soo much - the fisher price one has nice big figures too and they actually sit (paris had coniptions with hers cos the people don't sit and the perfectionist she is, well, you aren't ALLOWED to stand on chairs mummy!!)

For Ayja we got a big potato head with 4 potato head bodies and part in it cos she loves paris's one (which was mine from when i was 5!) which is neat cos you can now buy packs for about $9 with different arms and faces etc like safari and mermaid etc.

we got her some bath toys cos she loves the bath and we want to try and make her sit down for more than 2 seconds cos she tends to stand up and jump about. some fisher price magnets - again to divert her attention cos paris has some phonics magnets that i know ayja will be itching to get her grubby mits on!!(both the bath toys and magnets were $10)

oh and we got a wooden train set starter pack 120 piece for them to share. but seriously, fisher price little people are the way to go cos then you don't need the farm animals you can get a pack of farm animals at kmart at the mo for $19.95 for like 26 of them that go to little people set. - only other thing ayja is getting is the little people aeroplane cos i have wanted to get her one for ages but they stopped making them yonks ago but have brought out a new range now.

Enuf ideas for you? lol
you know me, i am so starved for mummy interactions you guys are the only other mummies i talk to for weeks sometimes.. so i babble.
