Do you have a mission statement?

What is your mission statement.

How do you maintain your own identity while still being a mother, wife/partner?

No

I have personal beliefs/ethics I guess you could call it? Nothing so formal that I've sat down thought about it let alone written it down. These I adapt to each situation rather than have a blanket rule that is rigid and unmoving.

How do I maintain my identity, by having hobbies and a life outside children & my husband.

ie - I still sleep in and read books like I used to before I was a mother, granted that isn't til 11am anymore, more like 9am. eta (I go to the library, they have to wait for me to do my thing, get my books & only then am I happy to wait around for them to get what they want, otherwise I go by myself & they hate that )
- I am on committees that have nothing to do with children, although the people at times act like children

I also tend not to over think life and just go with the flow.

I have never come across a mission statement being used for parenting. I thought it's only used in a business sense?

I don't have a mission statement but I find myself saying often - I am not defined by my children and husband..A mother and wife is only a small part of who I am..I am still the same fun loving, joker ,rude, crude and dangerous to know person I was before children! I have lots of hobbies and interests outside of my children and husband - I think if I didn't, I'd be a very boring person!

I got the idea from the main OB page ^^
I don't think mission statements are the exclusive domain of the business/corporate world.

I know I am more than a wife/mother I do think I'm not the same person I was before I had my daughter either.

I've done things in the 18 months since she was born that I never dreamed of before.

My life is fuller and more interesting to me since having her not sure how to define myself and whether I am living my authentic self.

I feel like I have a life BC (before children) and now with kids. Having children is obviously something I can't undo.

Oh right, had a quick skim of the article.
But nah, I am pretty happy with who I am, no identity crisis here

Hated having mission statements at work, certainly wouldnt have them at home, for me its all about the moment, right here right now, I dont spend a lot of time dwelling about my 'old' life - been there, done that, had a great time

Im just me, Ive evolved over the years, like me dont like me, dont care really, I like me, hope my children like/love me and my friends hopefully love me too and will tell me when Im being an arse but will still love me

Lifes not about labels/statements etc Just about what makes you and yours happy, if you arent happy/unsure then make changes, try new things etc easy as

I'm feel like this too, but I'm happy with that. I had an awesome time in my 20's living life to the fullest, partying hard and making lifetime friendships. At that time my friendships and social life defined me. I then spent a few years establishing my career and for a period of that time, my job which I loved, absolutely consumed (and therefore defined) me.

So right now (as a SAHM to 22 month old twins) being a mother and wife IS what defines me. I'm completely happy and content with the next couple of years being all about my family. It won't be long and I'll be going back to work and making things more about me - and then what defines me will change.

Main OB page?????

I've never heard of one used outside the business world.

It's a bit feathery-strokey for me, I'm not really the type.

I did hear a talk once, though, where the speaker suggested you think of three words which you think definine you, and weigh up every decision against those words. For example, honest, loving and loyal or whatever three words worked for you. I quite liked that idea.

Eye's glazed over....Sounds like all too much effort for me but then I'm comfortable with who I am so I guess it's not relevant to me.
