Topic: carseat in van? Posted: 10 January 2009 at 1:06pm |
Would you guys feel comfortable putting your child in the front seat of a van (in their carseat of course)? DH has just bought a new van - his old one has a broken passenger seat so we haven't taken Ash in there before. But his new one is fine and her seat fits ok. No airbags or anything. I'm sure it is fine but I am just wary about having her in the front!

I put the boys in the fornt with me every now and then and they were fine. Josh loved it when he was in the front when we travelled home to Waiouru. They can see heaps more that way too.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

The girls have turns at going in the front with us sometimes. Main concern with it is if there is a crash they have very little protection (ours has no nose at all) if you are able to put the seat back, put it back as far as possible but *touch wood* we haven't had a problem

Hannah and Briona have both been in the front of our van with a booster seat, with no probs. Of course if there are seats in the back, they are expected (law) to travel in those.

Yep Isla goes in her car seat in Dh's work van. The first time she was a bit spooked, but loves it now. His work even installed a anchor point for us so he could take her in it out of work hrs!
She sits on the passenger side, not the middle seat, as there wasnt enough room in the middle for the carseat cos it was too close to the gear stick. Check that before u get the anchor point fitted!

We went to Taupo last summer in DH's work van with all 3 (and me pg) of us in the front. Leah loved it, the only thing was when she woke uo from a sleep and a truck was coming up close on the other side of the road she got a heck of a fright, lol we thought it was funny and it didn't upset her.

Glad to hear others do it too - makes me feel better Nope, no back seat as its a work van. And Kellz, our middle seat only has a lapbelt so she definately has to go on the passenger side (and I get squeezed in between her and the gearstick lol)
She had a short ride in it the other day and thought she was very cool as she could see everyone/everything

Ella thinks a ride in the front of her Dad's work van (in her carseat) is the greatest treat out! I was apprehensive about it at first too.

We do not have air bags in our estima and the kids often go in the front, especially if it just me and 1 as we have a chat about lots of things, and they go in dad's work van as well, when we upgrade next it will be a later model and will most def have airbags so they won't be able to then.

Nyah used to go to daycare in DH's van.
I however will not allow her in the car front seat at all. Thats just not negotiable in our house. I've seen what an airbag can do to a 6yr old and it's not pretty.
Also our friends Aunty was killed when a trailer jack knifed and took her out. She had her baby in the front seat and he is now without a mother and he is going to be spending a very long time in Starship...

My husbands friends sisters twin was killed in a van in the front seat in an accident but the back seat passengers were fine The dad also died too. I wouldn't do it if you could help it but if its the only option....
