 Topic: telling friends/family

Does anyone know some fun interesting ways to tell friends and family that you are pregnant? I am the first of my school friends to fall pregnant (or even try) and I would love to do something imaginative to tell them, but I am not an imaginative person.
Does anyone have any ideas?

When I told my parents I was pregnant with Josiah, I rung them up and said "Hello Nanma/Poppa times two!", and for Nat's parents it was "Hello Gran/Grandad times seven!"... This time we got Kiya to tell them 
Doesn't help you with #1 though  hmmm... I've heard of people buying those bibs with "I love Grandma" or "I love Grandad" on them and giving that to the appropriate person.

Hmm this is interesting and could be fun- maybe if you have a get together and let them know there or maybe if you make little teddy bear cards or something and send them out to let them know... theres a few different ways... makes me think now- ill get back to you if i think of a good one!

what i really wanted to do ( but didnt get a chance to, grr) was send a wee note with a jelly bean attached to it, saying "cant wait to meet you, love your grandchild" or something similar. would be lots of fun if people wernt expecting it.
when we started telling people i just said "guess what i am getting for xmas?" "a baby!" which got lots of reaction
think i will still do the jellybean thing when we see what flavour it is, have a pink one or a blue one and give them to family.... hopefully it isnt too cryptic!

When we found out i was having Paris it was around the first or second week in december, and we have a family tradition that each grandchild has a special glass ball that goes on nana's xmas tree with their name and date of birth on them - (which i am always called upon to do).. we had just had 2 new bubbas born in oct and nov, so i went round to mums to make the new decorations and we were just sitting around havinga cuppa while i drew the names on the new ones and just said to her that I'd be doing this again next year and she'd have one more to hang on the tree - she got it straight away. was so kewl
second time, i just rung everyone and said "guess what!" lol

You could send them a txt saying: Hello my name is ???? and i'll make my apperance on "Due Date". My friend did that to her parents and then counted till they rang them, it took 6 seconds.
I told my mum like this: Well I can't ring you from OZ like you rang your mum so I'm going to tell you to your face. Didn't even have to tell you she just looked at me and said you are joking right. Nope. When is it due. About April. She was really happy after she got over the shock of being a nana at 40. Second time my mum was telling all of her aunts and uncles at a big family party that she won't be a nana again for quite a while. After she told me that I told her she has to tell them all she was telling them lies. My parents are over the moon i'm having another one.
DH's family on the other hand, we told his mum the first time, and her reaction: but you can't have children can you? Yes, I had the endo taken out. But DH you can't have the first child you are the youngest, your brother is meant to have the first child. - That made me really angry. DH's brother has now split up with his now ex wife so we are all glad they (we he) will never breed. Second time MIL asked if I wanted a glass of wine, DH said no you can't drink when your pregnant, and they were happy.

I emailed a photo of the positive pregnancy test to my parents back in the UK and all the email said was "congrats Nanny and Grandad"  Hubby told his family over the phone as they are all in NZ.

I remember telling mum and step dad the first time when they were having tea. we had just found out and stopped in thier house on the way home, had been there about half an hour and were talking about something completely different and then I said well Im having a baby, mum just about choked then burst into tears. I actually cant remember how I told everyone this time.

We invited my parents over to dinner and told them, but they didn't react well so I've decided that next time I'll save a dinner for a normal evening and will just ring them to tell them the news! We told my in-laws when we all went away for a big family event, and had planned to be a little more eloquent (hubby was for the big announcement - the one when everyone in the family was there). But for his parents, they were told when we booked into our motel rooms and discovered that the motel had messed up everyone's bookings and we were sharing a ROOM with 3 of his siblings!!! His parents joked "sorry son, doesn't look like you'll be doing anything much tonight in this room" (ya, very open family!!) and he said "nah we don't need to have sex again anyway" - they clicked straight away and were all hugs and congrats.
I really like the idea of sending out little cards though - very cute. I send an e-mail to friends with pictures for charades, spelling out "up the duff" (yes, there was a picture of a can of duff beer!). Only one person took a while to get it!!

When we told the grandparents we were in the middle of normal conversation and DH said to them "so what are you doing around Sept?" and the folks said "um no plans why" and DH said "Well we are going to need a hand - do you think you could do us a favour - we will be needing babysitters..." and they got it straight away...

with jack, we found out xmas eve and my parents were staying with us from nelson. i asked them if they wanted to open a pressie early, so i wrapped a box of scorched almonds and the gift tag read 'to nana and grandad, love the feotus'. lots of cuddles and tears followed...
xmas day, i told my grandma and granddad they had another pressie from us but couldn't open it for 9mths...
this time around my parents were shifting down here and i was on light duties due to 'back ache'. we were having drinkies one night and i sat down with a bottle of sparkling apple juice and just waited til someone said anything....about 10secs later my mum looked at me and said 'your preggy aren't you'. they had already guessed anyway
