Go on the jet boat out to the hole in the rock - very cool! Plus Russell is a really nice place to take a wander and look at the history of the area.

How long you going for hun?

I really recommend the Cape Reigna trip but it takes all day (and a long day at that), with the weather like this it will be just stunning. And you'd get to go sand boarding which is so much fun as well as a picnic at the beach. You spend a fair amount of time on the coach but it's so worth the travelling to see this view;

Even going over to Russell for lunch or something is lovely and relaxing.

We did this too - saw loads of wildlife and dolphins and wasn't at all seasick (unlike the Kaikoura Whale Watch )

Highly recommend it

Edit for typos!

There are some yummy places but some are so overpriced it's ridiculous because it's a major tourist spot.
But I definitely second (third/fourth lol...) the cape trip and the swim with dolphins trip...we didn't get to see dolphins but got to see orca whales which was probably even more special.

Hope you have a lovely time.

excellent chippy - think it is called One Hot Tuna (or something like that). Anyway, it is just along the front opposite where the Fullers Boat trips leave from

Cant beat it for a cheap, tasty meal and you can eat out on the sea front

Recommend the trip to Cape Reinga, I went on the Contiki bus, the driver was a Maori guy who really turned it on for the tourists, calling everyone 'bro' and 'cos', its a day trip also including boogie boarding down the dunes at 90 mile beach. - It was a lot of fun.
Swimming with the dolphins is recommended.
Visit over to Russell
