Topic: Swimming Lessons Posted: 19 January 2009 at 3:35pm |
I want to start Ava on swimming lessons in a couple of months (she'll be 6 months old). Can anyone tell me who does baby swimming classes in Auckland.

Westwave in Henderson has classes, this is where Jack goes. Also the Waterhole in Glen Eden but I wasn't too sure about them and have heard mixed 'reviews'

Which part of Auckland are you looking for? Hilton Brown in Albany also do them.

We go to Paddletots in Greenlane and it is fabulous. They have weekend classes so most of the babies in our class are in with the dads (we go on a Sunday).
The classes are small (never been more than about 6 kids at a time in ours), and it is in a private hydrotherapy pool as well, so really clean and nice.
We started DS at 6 months, and he just adores it.

I started Breanna at Hilton Brown in Newmarket at 3 months old. They were good and the classes weren't too big.

Oli used to go to Hilton Brown in Mt Roskill, but we have moved to the Trent Bray Swim School at the top of Sandringham Rd, they run baby classes every day (several each day) and they are fantastic. Its a brand new purpose built facility and they have lots of change tables, its lovely and warm and clean and the teachers are great!

Will have to check out Trent Bray since it's just down the road, might see you there Sam. Denny: their website says you don't have to be able to swim.
Anyone's bubs who swam got a bug/ill from the water? Am hesitant to have bubs in a public swimming pool but hopefully should be fine at 6mnths.

Sorry I cant help with somewhere in Auckland but I used to be a swimming teacher and Loved the babies! You will have so much fun. I totally encourage teaching babies and children water safety from a young age

The pool that they use for the little ones at Trent Bray is deep enough that you can kneel on the bottom (when I am standing it comes up to my tummy).
One of the things I really like about Trent Bray is that its not a public pool as well, so its really clean and its only used for lessons. It isnt really heavily chlorinated either so its a bit gentler on their skin.
If you ring them or pop in they normally give you a trial lesson for free! We go to an 11.30 session as when we get home I can give him lunch then he normally has a great sleep!

Just investigated Paddletots & it's $167.00 per child, times that by 2 & that's one expensive play time with the bubs. Will investigate others otheriwise I'll wait until next year & teach them in my parents pool when it warms up again.... free activities for us for a while I think.

It could be worth checking out tho Twinboys coz when I took the gremlins to lessons (they went to Swimsation at Mt Albert) I only had to pay for one and got the other free. We had to drop out tho coz their ears were so bad they weren't well enough to swim most weeks.
It wasn't the swimming that made their ears bad tho, Maya went every week from 4 mths and she's never had ear problems, these two just have dodgy ears.

Twinboys2B, you do get a discount if you enrol more than one child, but think it is only around 10% or something. Might still be a bit pricey.

Have a chat with them at TB - they are really lovely, and you might find that they can do you a good deal!
