for keeping an incredibly active kid slightluy immobile?
Jake broke his arm this morning - wrestling with daddy, just as we were walking out the door to a wedding - sigh. So he has a cuff and collar and is off to the fracture clinic tomorrow but has been told to keep it immobile. So far, he's tried to take it off twice and is complaining about it being sore on his neck. Any ideas and hints about keeping him safe? Already a pain with going to the toilet and getting dressed - sigh, it's going to be a long 6 weeks!!! |

Oh that's the last thing you need on hot summer days! Does he like reading books? - you could get him some new ones from the library. Otherwise, drugs?
From what I gather of your two boys, immobile has never once occurred to them!!! Sorry I couldn't be more help

Does he have a sling or something? It won't completely prevent him from using it but could serve as a reminder not to.

Ah poor Jake
Lots of valcro or superglue
Brae broke his collar bone late last year from falling out of a tree. Luckily we had a sholder strap (sorta like a sling) which stoped him moving that area, coz they dont plaster collar bones, it was great! What is a cuff n collar? We dressed him in button up shirts coz he couldnt put his arms any higher than his sholders. I also gave him litres of milk, thinking it would help his bones heal But yes it was a mission trying to keep him from being so active & climbing the trees again
He was able to do normal things within 3wks |

they haven't - and apparently aren't intending to - put in plaster. just a sling kinda thing - but it kinda puts the arm like he had his hand on his heart (but it's the other arm).
lots of fun for daycare. i was drugging him, but I didnt before as he was asleep in the car coming home and he appears to be in fine form, so might just leave off on the pamol. So, now they are both watching dvds....sigh |
