Topic: Herbal labour helpers... Posted: 25 July 2006 at 1:24pm |
I have heard that if you take evening primrose oil tablets and drink raspberry leaf tea it will help with labour - so when do I start taking these little wonders?
Ofcourse I am not sure if they will help or not, but anythings gotta be worth a try right?
Is it too early for me to start taking them now?
Oh and while I am at it - does anyone know if it is ok to take vit E capsules during pregnancy - my skin is so dry!?

My midwife reccomended that I didn't start the raspberry leaf tea or EPO before 36 weeks. So now I'm on 2-3 cups of tea a day and EPO up the fufu morning and night
Not sure about vitamin E, I'd check with your midwife to be sure. My skin is super-dry too and someone on here reccomended Lipobase cream which is helping a lot.

I think I have written this before sometime ago...
Stick to the EPO....and get the Efanatal which is formulated for Pregnancy. (ie: researched)
A friend had a little girl who was born with 2 big skin tag things..One on her face and one beside her ear. She had to have an operation to have them removed. They were not life threatening or anything just looked unsighlty on this cute little cherub!
The Skin Specialist said they were from her Mum taking Vitamin E Capsules through her pregnancy.

yeah I heard 36wks onwards too, my midwife said I was all good to go on them now. She said the Raspberry leaf tablets were better than the tea...think cos the dosage is the same but the tea the strength is different...anyhow I dont have either yet but got the EPO tablets.Gotta go to the health shop for the Raspberry leaf tablets.
My MW told me to take the EPO tablets orally, she also mentioned about sex and that oral sex is better than normal sex because sperm has the same thing in it as EPO(forgot the name)and has a better effect orally.(i mentioned this in a differnt post too) but ewwwww gross im not doing that! icky!

Sorry to repeat myself (this is just a cut and paste of my reply to the other post on bringing on labour)...
It has prostaglandins in it, EPO has an ingredient called GLA (forget what that stands for) that helps the body produce prostaglandins - and the prostaglandins are what's meant to help start labour, same as the gel they use at the hospitals for inductions etc. I personally don't understand though why it would be better orally, I would say one way is just as effective as the other - and again referring to inductions, they put the gel directly on your cervix rather than make you swallow it !

yeah hmmmm oral sex - nope can honestly say I have never heard of that as a labour starter before, I'm struggling to think how that one would work BETTER (or even at all really) to be honest...
But oh well...
different strokes for different folks I guess ( hee hee excuse the pun! )
