Heya,
Most of you know about my little 'save the world' trip that seems to be hanging round longer than I expected...
I've been getting annoyed at having a degree that is of little to no use in this mission to help people.
So, I'm thinking about doing some training to become a doula (as I can't justify doing another 3 year degree to become a midwife). This is just an idea at this stage...
and if I did it, I wouldn't be one of those peace, love and harmoney doulas. (Not to say that they are bad... just can't quite imagine myself being the type). But anywayyyy... does anyone know a NZ doula? or how to go about getting training???
P.S. For those who don't know what a doula is (I didn't until recently)... it's a trained birth assistant who works with the mother with birthing techniques and advocates on her behalf for birth plans etc and helps with postnatal care. Just a support person really.
The lady who took my antenatal classes through North Shore Hospital is a doula, or at least she was - her name is Sharyn and I've got her phone number somewhere...
