Now, if you're anything like me and you have NO clue about anything to do with taxes, tax refunds etc, and have been too scared to try and tackle the situation by yourself, I would HIGHLY recommend these guys.
They're FANTASTIC!
I applied for 3 years worth of refunds and have just received $703.52... I'm so stoked!
Just what I needed at this time, I'm so happy!
The best part is, is that their fees are so minimal - From a $254 refund for the year 2005, I received $219... So REALLY reasonable when you consider how much an accountant can cost.
Anyways, just thought I'd bring them to your attention and give them the plugging that they deserve because they've just helped me out SO much.
YAY!

They don't calculate tax owing, only refunds. So if you owe money, they won't actually say anything - it's like they do all the calculations and don't lodge a return if you owe, but do if you have a refund.

I got mine through them, it was ok but took ages and I was a little dissapointed when I found out how easy it was to get your refund through IRD.
DF rang ird, pressed a number for TAX REFUNDS and got his credited into his bank account in 2 days $912 and no fees taken off him I will be doing it that way next time lol But good if you think that you owe money, it would be best to go through them.

I just emailed them and said that I wasn't eligible anyway so there was no need to do the documentation and they said it was fine.

If you have the amount you earned and how much tax you paid (which you have if you can log onto your IRD accounts, or have an end of year pay slip or something) then it's pretty easy to use the IRD calculator here to figure out if they owe you money. Then you can just request it and don't have to pay anyone any fees. And if you owe them money you don't do anything and then you don't have to pay it

True Auntie Sarah, that said though the calculators are only guides and can be wrong!
My 2007 tax return, the calculators said I was owed $250 and when I sent in my return I only got $38!!!!!!!
I just did DH's 2008 on their calculators and according to that he is due $2500.00 for that year alone and all the info entered is correct... I doubt very much that is how much he is actually due but I hope it is, cos it would come very much in handy right now.

Don't do it, seriously its such a crock and they charge so much.
Go to the IRD site, request a summary of earnings (not personal tax summary). That way you will not end up having to pay anything if you haven't been taxed enough. Then go on to the calculators. If it works out they owe you something, then ask for a personal tax summary. Easy as.
That's all these people do. They really do rely on people thinking that they do some magical thing and that the normal person can't do it themselves. Take my advice and save yourself potentially hundreds of dollars.

I know what you mean emz, but I asked for my personal tax summary months ago from IRD and am still waiting.
I got $800 tax back using taxrefunds.co.nz and they took $100 of it which I don't mind at all due to the speed and efficiency of the service.

I'm with emz, do it yourself and save the money.
If IRD are slow, phone them back. Loosing upwards of 10% of your refund for such a simple process seems mad to me.

This just reminded me I need to send in my childcare rebate forms, I'm entitled for every year since 2003 which is quite a bit.
