Topic: Help - biting!! Posted: 24 February 2009 at 9:55am |
My 13 month old has started biting and I obviously taste good as I am the only one that she seems to bite!
At first I thought it could be connected to teething but now it seems to be at random times whenever we are playing or the other day I was holding her and she gave me a cuddle and then bit me on the shoulder. When she does bite I say a firm "no" and put her down or move away from her.
I would really appreciate any suggestions.

My boy is the same, and he's 13 months too. He started off just biting me, then moved onto DH and now he bites other adults he trusts as well (nice). Thankfully not onto other toddlers yet, but I'm all too aware that could be next.
We're very firm with him and do what you do - saying 'no biting' with an angry face and putting him down.
My boy bites cos either he's excited, or bored, or hungry or tired, or we're holding him and he wants to be put down.
So sorry not really any other suggestions, but just wanted to tell you you're not alone!

Lilia sometimes bites as well, usually when she gets excited. Its mainly me she does it to and occasionally DH. I say to her 'no biting Lilia' in a stern voice and then put her on the floor away from me.
I also wonder if it may be related to teething as thankfully she doesn't do it often.

My Daughter went through this phase too, at about 16 months. Only to me. I don't think it was teething related as she would do it when excited or frustrated, so it seemed more emotional to me.
I did time out with her. I would warn her once, and then if she did it again I would put her in her room for about 30 seconds. She continued to do it for about a month or so, but now has stopped completely. Unfortunately she has swapped biting for hitting and scratching, lol! But oh well I will use the same tactics and hopefully this too will pass!

Jackson began biting me on the shoulder, and on my knees a few weeks ago. All I did was just say "no" in a grumpy voice and put him down on his own. He didnt bite DH or Janaya either.
He hasnt done it in about a week, fingers crossed it was just a very short phase.
