I was induced with our little boy 3 times I might add but it was all good didn't even really know that i was in labour (no pain at all really after having a not so good birth with our first)

Good luck and hope it all goes well for you.

Hi, I was induced and after the 2nd attempt we were on our way - I didn't even know I was on the way until they went to have a 3rd attempt. Shortly after waters were broken and a lure inserted and after the epidural I don't remember anything! It was an awesome moment when bubs arrived a few hours later - the moment that stick in my mind is the lure that drove me insane. Hope all goes well for you

i had a strech and sweep, gel, hormone drip etc. laboured for 12hrs and then had a caeser.

the drip definetly made contractions stronger and more intense.

I was induced and loved it. I did have an elective epidural though. There is a thread on here somewhere about people's stories - most of them are actually really positive. Ill see if I can find it for you.

ETA - bumped up - its in the pregnancy section and called "Induction Stories"

If i could I'd ask to be induced for our second(when we have another). They did the stretch and sweep on Tues, I was admitted on weds night(pre eclampsia) then induced friday- broke waters and drip(hormone). Five hour labour from drip inserted to bubs popping out.

I think I posted on the induction thread in pregnancy ages ago, but I had an elective induction with both of my last pregnancies, and I loved my birth experiences. First induction I didn't need gel, they were able to break my waters and start a synto drip, the gremlins were born 6 hours later. Second induction I was "nowhere near ready" according to my midwife, had one lot of gel and spent a few hours pacing around the hospital to help move things along. She was able to break my waters at 2.30pm, contractions started at 3.45pm and she was born at 5.21pm, it was brilliant.

I say trust your gut. And if they're talking about inducing you now and you're only 36 weeks, I'd say there's a good medical reason for it coz they don't do pre-term inductions without one.

I was induced and I was glad I was. I hope I need to be for the next one. Mostly because we live a wee way from the hospital (about 30-40mins) and once the actual contractions started I was glad to already be in hospital as I would not have wanted to get in a car and go for a drive!

I had the gel at 8pm, paced all night with cramps (that I thought were contractions), more gel at 8am, more cramps. Got waters broken at noon, had REAL contractions and did a lot of dialating, had meconium in my waters at 2 or 3pm, had gas, got the drip and an epi (that didn't work grrr) and bubs was out at 5:30pm.

I think the only down side is that most people need a fair bit of monitering, but I didn't care about that at all. I had been in and out of the bath/shower all night and most of the day so didn't care when they wanted me to lie on the bed for a couple of hours and suck on some gas. Good times!

Thanks guys Im being induced prob monday 9th MArch I will be 38 weeks due to my high blood pressure that is getting harder to keep on top of despite meds, so am happy with knowing it is safer for baby to be born then. Apparently there is a new thing where they insert a pssarie (SP?) that is attatched to a ribbon that starts the softning of the cervix so would give you the cramps, but my MW said if Im only cramping by night time they can take it out so I can get a decent nights sleep and put it back in the morning. I have noticed that there are a few of you that have been induced that have also had an epidural what was your reasons for having one? Was it that the pain was too intense? Am certainly feeling a little better about it with hearing your stories!!!

Hi

I was induced at 38.4 weeks due to gestational diabetes. I was told I was nowhere near ready for natural labour (bishops score of 1)They inserted the gel at 10.30pm and over night I had pains that were all over the place, some bad some not. I tried the pool for pain relief but due to my right hand & wrist being stuffed due to the IV they put in after many failed attempts I could not support myself in the water, ended up having pethidine to get some sleep. In the morning approx 9.30am they did an internal and said they would try and break my waters after a couple of attempts they succeeded and said it would be at least 12 hours, within 20 minutes I was in full labour and not even 4 hours later our daughter was born. I had an epidural but never got any pain relief from it as not even an hour after they had started it I was pushing. I know I will be induced next time as I will 100% surely have GD again and they have said it will be the same, this does not bother me at all. No one at the hospital thought I would be that quick considering I was being induced and had a bishops score of 1 but quick labours run in my family. Even an hour before she was born they said I would be in labour another 6 hours!!!! I was so worried about being induced but in the end the worst part for me was my hand & wrist as I could not support myself properly. All in all it was a great experience.

Best of luck!

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Salz, I had an epi because they had thought I was a long way off and baby hadn't engaged so they were expecting a cs. The MW suggested I have one so I can rest and sleep for a few hours before the cs. It didn't work because Jody was getting ready to come out already.
I think the drip can make thing intense, but I found it was a relief, I was getting intense contractions 1-2mins apart the whole time, they were sorta all over the show too, like a slow build-up that came to nothing then a minute later I would suddenly get into the 'peak' of a contraction with no build up! Not easy to use the gas when you can't feel one coming. The drip made the contractions regular, although the epi did take away the build up of them, but DH just had his hands on my tummy and he could feel it go hard so would tell me to start sucking that gas.
Apart from the pain it was really fun!

Hi again I was induced like you due to high BPat 38ish weeks I found that the tablet was useless. I went in on the Thursday night and it was inserted and nothing happened at all on the Friday night it was removed and I was rested for the night. On Saturday morning the gel was inserted but my MW warned me that nothing would probably happen and that she would be back later in the day to check and insert a further gel (all thru the morning I had only mid niggles) - well her collegue came back and went to do the 2nd gel but said no you are dilated I called and get your MW down to break your waters. I found that quite traumatic - suddenly its all happening! and like I said the lure just about drive me insane. I had an epidural inserted straight away as my MW thought because of my high BP I may have to get an emergency C and she did start to push for that as my BP spiked up even higher but the consultant said no I would delivery very soon and it was too late to go to C sec, bubs was born after 5 hours (first bub), all I can say is it was bliss with the epidural (even though it had to be inserted twice) but I don't remember anything at all. Like some of the others have said everyone has different experiences but I can't complain at all about the whole experience of having our beautiful bubs. Good luck.

Heidismum I can see me being in the same position as you as at the moment I certainly dont have any signs of going into a natural birth baby is head down but not even 1/5 engaged, I dont have any niggles or braxton hicks. There does seem to be a common theme that once labour is established it all happens pretty quick.
Thanks again for posting your stories am finding them really helpful.
