Hi my babe has a stomach bug. He is refusing the breast but will take milky solid food and I just discovered he'll also take a bottle of expressed milk. I don't want him not taking the breast as I don't want to be weaning yet. Any solutions??

He definitely needs fluids. If he's got a tummy bug, it might be worth trying Pedialyte from the bottle - that has all the electrolytes that he needs but it isn't EBM, so it might mean he doesn't begin to associate the bottle with EBM .

Is it that you don't want to give him anything that's not directly from the boob, or are you happy to give him stuff as he needs, just not EBM??

Oh no! Its so horrible when they get tummy bugs. If he has lots of vomiting etc then you definately need to get fluid ito him. Pedialyte is good for that and it is this disgusting bubblegum flavor so he definately won't associate it with bm. Your doctor will be able to give you a script for it.
Might be that he just needs an easy feed at the moment though and it takes a lot more effort to bf.

He's stll bad but is taking booby a bit better today. Poor guy. I have given him some clear liquids in a bottle too and that seems to have helped.

He's starting to take booby again now but just a little often which is more than fine with me. Man he has lost so much weight over the last 4 days. He's got real skinny and he used to be a chubby baby.
