I think you have to have child in care for so many hours (in home-based I know you do anyway) and when I was doing home-based care it cost approx $5 an hour I think.
When you say 'occasional' do you mean regular part-time or random days/weeks where they ring you in the morning to say there's a place available for that day?
I live in Hamilton and there are lots of places that do part-time care but I've never heard of one that does random care. I guess for the childs sake, something regular is easier on them.
I'd say the best thing to do would be to phone around. Places are generally really happy to answer any Q's you have
When I was looking for a similar type of childcare for Dominic I found it almost impossible to find a place that does casual care hours. Mostly they do morning and afternoon sessions. What suburb are you in?
I'm in Ham East.I thought maybe there might be some places that take them randomly. If not would be happy to put DS in a regular spot for say 1 half day a week, would any places let me do that.DS is 10 months.Any recommendations anyone as new to Hamilton and dont know where to start.
Most places I rang would do casual care but I still had to pay for the whole slot, such a rip off. I'm not sure what these places will do but they all have good reputations and are in or close to Hamilton East and might give you a place to start:
Campus Creche - 8384034
Melody Childcare (in Ruakura research facility) - 838 5750
Country Creche - 829 5635
