Topic: Wedding Songs-Help! Posted: 07 March 2009 at 8:33pm |
DF and I are getting married next Saturday as most of you know We cant decide on our first dance song and what to have when we sign the register!
For our first dance we want something nice and slow and romantic but not soppy and cheesy! lol as for signing the register, we have no idea....
We have a DJ, and he is going to set up his computer etc in the corner and he has most songs so he will play the wedding march for us as I come in and as Adam and I walk back down the aisle(sp?).
Any idea's would be great!
TIA!

sheza...what kinda music are you into? you know, old school, really really old school, modern pop songs, rock, jazz, country (please dont say country!)
it will give us a little bit of direction to suggest...dont you guys have 'a song'..you know, the first time you met or the first time you did IT..lol???a song that means something to you both...

There was a thread for Kelly (catliansmygirl) not so long ago - lots of people put their songs up so you might get some ideas from that.

We signed the register to "Stuck On You" by Lionel Ritchie and our first dance was "Amazed" by Lonestar.
One piece of advice, which I wish someone had mentioned to us, is if you guys are shy/not really dancers etc then make sure your first dance song isn't too long. We found ours a bit too long and were kinda wishing it to hurry up and finish as we were slightly embarrassed being in the limelight like that and not really dancers

Black seeds "so true" for first dance, it rocked. Romantic but sooo not cheesy.
Signed to Jimmy Barnes singing "Signed, sealed delivered" and billy joels "just the way you are "
I made a cd of all the songs I liked but couldn't choose from for the pre ceremony and to be played while family pics taken etc.
Walked into reception to "best friend" by Queen - which was written by their drummer (I think) for his wife
And, cheesy, I walked into the ceremony to Can't help fallining love by Elvis ( for my dad who died before we got married) My bridesmaid walked in to Pachebel canon (however its spelled)

I like anything except hard core metal lol, DF likes most things aswell.
I love that song by lonestar! But yeah thats a good point, I dont want to be up there for to long lol! Maybe the DJ could fade it out at some point for us.
When we first met, Starlight by Muse was out and that was kind of our song, and Muse is DF's fave band, but Im not sure its....romantic enough, its kind of more on the rock side.
I did think about Shania Twain, your still the one, cos the lyrics remind me of us!
There are so many songs I like lol

thats so exciting Sheza! All the best for next weekend!!!
I walked down the aisle to 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence None the Richer, Signed the register to 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson and we had 'Beautiful Girl' - INXS & 'Beautiful Day' - U2 at the end of the ceremony. I cant really remember what our first dance song was. Sounds slack but we were in Rarotonga and there were only 20 of us so that part was really informal!!
Good luck!!!!

i walked into "shouldnt you outa be in love" by dave dobbyn. It just sounded right. I was also considering "all I want is you by U2...but that is SERIOUSLY long.
We signed the register to a celtic/folk version of the irish blessing (may the wind be at your back etc etc). That was cool!

heres a list of songs we had for various things for ours
lead-up/pre-ceremony:
Finally found - honeyz
Kiss me - (can't remember the artist)
One way or another - blondie (for a laugh)
romeo and juliet - dire straights
baby i'm amazed by you - lonestar
chasing cars - snow patrol
white wedding - billy idol
final countdown - europe (as mike came in)
sandstorm - darude (mikes psych-up song before i got there)
ceremony:
shadowfeet - brooke fraser (i entered to this)
speechless - the veronicas (i love this song - we used it for signing the register)
Rainbow connection (mike wanted this, was kidna cheesy but cute - was the song for signing the register if the other song ended before we finished... lol i didn't end up hearing it!!!!)
heaven - (you can have the soppy bryan adams version, or we had the dj sammy version)
some other songs i liked - i originally had shakira - underneath your clothes.. cos of the lyrics
I have also since found a song on fergies cd called "Finally" - and that's awesome too.
other songs we had playing afterwards include:
Hanging by a moment (again can't remember the singer)
every time you need me - fragma
two in a million - s club 7 (OMG i know...)
She's the one - robbie williams
I do love you - le-anne rymes
If you're not the one - (i think by daniel beddingfeild)
our first dance was to "i wanna dance with you" by Live - another nice song
hope you find something - it's so hard. I went through and made a list and looked online for the "classics" lol then went through and weeded out the soppy bollocks and added in our own mix to it cos we like the beaty, techno-ish kinda stuff, so mixed it up to suit us.
eeek so exciting.

We had "Storybook Love Story" playing while we signed the register.
Walked out to "outa be loved"
First dance was the Il Divo version of Unchained Melody.
I walked into my friends playing trumpets and playing Trumpet Voluntary, and my girls walked into Canon in D.

Our first dance was to Celebration. We didn't have a typical first dance it was a free for all. Everyone just joined in with us. We aren't big public people so we didn't put ourselves through the embarassment. Our ceremony song was The Rose by Westlife. We kept it very simple but fun

For our first dance DH and I couldnt come to an agreement. So I put a medley together and DH loved it. It was approx
30 seconds of Nights in White Satin
30 seconds of Everything (Michael Buble)
30 Seconds of Crazy little thing called love.
Our First Dance video - A friend did this on his camera.
Oh ETA our Signing the Register songs were Celtic Woman Over The Rainbow and DJ Sammy Heaven (Candle light version)

Miracles by Hollie Smith is really lovely. We had it playing when we signed our register. Its also the song that we have on our cd.
I also like crazy love by Brian McKnight and I like As the world falls down by David Bowie.
I wanted Groove is in the Heart by Dee-Lite as our first dance but DH said NO.

Speechless by the veronicas is really cool.
Amazed
This old love by "lior'
Have you ever been in love by celine (we had this for the signing)
fallin by Lauren hill (I think) its off pretty woman - a love this song
im your lady, you are my man (cant remember who thats by)
I will always love you - whitney
from this moment - cliche but nice
beautiful day - u2
lost in your love - cant remember who that is by also.
baby when I see you smile.
by my side - sade
For the first dance, if you think it is too long, you can ask your bridal party and parents to join in half way through...that way the limelight isnt right on you.

For walking down the asle(sp?) I had All you need is love by the beatles, for the signing of the linence chasing cars by snow patrol and cant help falling in love by UB40 and for our first dance I love you just the way you are by billy joel
It can be really hard deciding on the songs I know mine changed so many times but you just have to chosse one that means somthing to you and DF and use that dont worry if its romantic or not, as long as it has meaning to you two then it doeant matter
